Single Cam 300hp
Just wondering if its possible to Get 300-350hp out of a turbo single cam vtec built with say rods pistons sleeves EtC. Never really thought about single camin but im low on money so i wanna make somthing fast yet not expensive to rebuild if it is to blow up. How much should it cost or should turbo b series be the better route to go

300 hp is gonna be expensive no matter what. you might be able to get by on stock sleeves. definately will have to get aftermarket rods, pistons. maybe keep the head stock? actually if what i said is right it wont be expensive at all haha. if it needs sleeves it will get expensive though.

Low on money means i dont have cash for a K series or the money to send a b series to ERL to have it fully built with sleeves and bored over et etc...... just wanna have a very respectable Single to go low 12's possibly 11's on high boost

well, idk who it was here on ht, but sum guy ran a d16y8 on his hatch and turboed it, he was all stock internals, he got up to the 300whp all stock. D series motors are proven to handle boost well for what they are. maybe it was not gonna last him much, but he had an impressive power bandon his dyno sheet.

There have been sohc's in the 400's as well.

A stock rebuild is going to run you +/- $500 not including any labor, or machine work. Add on top of that +/- $500 for rods, and another +/- $400 for pistons. That's not including any kind of fuel management, or ignition parts. Or the axles you're going to go through, and let's not even get into the price of sleeves... There are cheap ways of getting about 275hp, but I'm not going to detail it as there are about a trillion posts about it, and whole sites dedicated to the subject. There are a lot of things to be considered. I would suggest you put at least a years worth of research into your goals to bypass any disappointment's that are pretty much guaranteed if you dive in head first. Thinking that it's just a pull the engine and fix it job is your first mistake. If you put a rod through the block, you'll need a new block, and there goes that $1500+ sleeve job. Knowledge is power, and it will keep you from making costly mistakes. Good luck with your project.

its been proven that a d-series can hit 300-350 maybe at around 14-16 psi depending on the turbo.
check out turbod16.com they have alot of people posting up there set-ups and they have a section on there to get good prices on pistons,rods, etc....... . tunning will be the more expensive part. but 300hp will still be cheaper money wise to hit than a whole b-series set-up even though a b-series can handle 300hp on stock internals.
**** give me 2g's and i can make 300hp

300whp on a d16z6 is as easy as the following
d16z6 engine w/ IM=tb ~$300
Tuner toys forged rod $225
Vitara pistons $125
arp head studs $90
various bearings+gaskets etc ~$250
for about $1000 you have all the parts you need to have a rebult d16z6 ready to handle 300whp all day

Here's an idea: since you can't answer that question yourself, just buy a DOHC ZC, drop it in, and enjoy the 130hp of reliable power for fairly cheap.

I'd get a Y8 intake manifold and a B16 throttle body. Then you have to get a turbo ontop of that, turbo+piping+intercooler+oil lines can run you into the 1000$ area (if it's good deals). Then you gotta assemble it all. Tune it (right there that's a good 500-800$). You will have to do OBD1 conversion if you want a good tune.

if all he wants is low 12's he could do it for about $3000 everything included doing basically what I did.
the d16z6 can handle 10-12lbs for a while, especially if you don't hit that everywhre you go.

you should be able to make 300 WHP on stock motor with good tuning and a well-designed and built turbo setup.
if you don't have access to great tuners, then you may want to build the motor to handle the abuse from bad tuners.
