Default Simple Q: if I unplug IACV what should happen?

When I unplug my IACV my engine *stalls*.

No CEL, no codes, too!

I've cleaned the IACV.

Is this right? Everything I read says it should idle when unplugged and throw a CEL. Since this doesn't happen the IACV is dead, right? Just want to be sure before I toss $180 at a new one (no yards nearby )

Thanks!

Adjust the idle speed. The idle speed should be 625 rpm with the IACV unplugged.

Maybe I should clarify: the engine dies - instantly. Stops. Maybe stall was the wrong word. No time to adjust idle. No codes. No CEL.

How does the engine behave with the IACV plugged in?

Cold idle is fine - FITV seems to be working.

Warm/Hot Idle is okay, but hunts maybe +/- 100 RPM. Idle is a little rough but I just replaced fuel filter and loaded up a bottle of injector cleaner.

After driving for a while, when I stop at a light it will stall.

But, it will start right up again, no problem.

I've looked for vacuum leaks and already replaced PCV valve.

I've tried all of the brake booster tests described in:

...and it seems like everything is fine.

So, I suspect IACV - test it by unplugging it and instant engine shut off - but no codes. Isn't it supposed to keep idleing? Seems like I need to replace it, right?

Thanks very much for the help!
