Just take a very thin specialty screwdriver and de pin all the wires from the cluster plugs. And then put the pins back in exactly like they are in this picture:

You shouldnt have to cut anything and this should be a 15 minute project max.

Also If you're going from an 90-91 cluster to 88-89 you're going to need an 88-89 civic cluster cover.

I thought the car was a 90-91. if it's an88-89 it is plug and play like said above.

odd. because i have a 90 dx, got a 90 si cluster, swapped it to my dx. it works fine except when the ignition if off. if the ignition is off, the door indicator is working the other way (the door indicator would turn on if the door is closed and would turn off if the door is open)

Actually I just purchased an 89 si cluster. Put it in and it was not plug and play at all. I really would like to know what needs to be repinned. And on the diagram I have no clue what the switched power to fuse # means. Thanks.

Here's what a lot of people don't know.......

there are "two" different companies that make clusters......ND and NS

In order to be plug and play, you need to have the same style cluster 88/89 into an 88/89 car, and it has to be the one mfg'd from the same company....same goes for the 90-91 style into a 90-91 car

The NS or ND stamp is right in the gauges in the cluster

i'll screw up the spelling but here goes, lol

ND= Nippon Denzo

NS- Nippon Sieki

^ pretty sure it's Nippon Denso and Nippon Seiki. You were close though.

I didn't know that it had to match the same brand. I guess I've just gotten lucky in the past

I have an 88/89 dx and I put an 88/89 si cluster. Didn't work for me at all. The cluster does work. I seen it myself. Thanks.

You say that it's plug and play for an 88-89 dx but what about a standard. My civic hatchback doesn't even have the door sensors

Well Deetz. The wknd has come around to where I don't have to drive my car. Went out unistalled my 88 cluster. Which is an NS. Took the 89 NS si cluster. Plugged it in. Doesn't work. I know the cluster is functional. So here is what happens when it is plugged in. I turn on the car. Cel come on. My right blinker works great. Which is the only thing that works. I let my emergency brake down and my tach came up. I reved it and it moved just a tad. Pulled the emergency brake back up and tach went back down. Also when I put the left blinker on my cel light blinks. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Well, the only thing i can think of, and i haven't confirmed this at all, but heard it rumered was that wiring may be different on sedan models, which look just like Si clusters.....i have no idea if they are different or not.

When you do figure it out, make sure to post and let others know whats up
