Yeah I've actually been trying to find new rear quarter panels. I really don't want to hit up the dealership but I am thinking that might be the best place.

I will be doing rust repairs on my brother 90 Civic HB before I get to do my car. Oh well more practise.

I actually just purchased a new 89 Civic HB w/ls swap. And it is pretty much RUST FREE. I got a decent deal too. Just need to fix a fender and either fix or replace the doors and I am good to go

(still want to know how to prevent rust from forming. anythign I could add to the inner panel)

i'd say your rocker is not repairable, cosmetically yes it is, you can patch it and mud it up with plastic but it will never be structurally sound again as if that much of the rocker is rusted then the rest of the metal is definately fatigueded. you can get brand new rockers from honda for $84 per side at http://www.hondaautomotivepart...cgry5=
if you plan on racing around in that little rex i would'nt do anything but replace them if you want the job done right. as for the quarters, yeah you could patch them with new metal but honestly thats what a hack would do, anytime you cut open a quarter and weld onto it it'll rust again in 2 years twice as bad this time though. i'd either cut out the rust, prime and seal the metal and get some body bond to glue in your patch piece, its just as strong as welding but won't rust if you prep the metal right, or i'd just skin the quarter. good luck, peace out

haha. yup and I will be bringing it down soon. I actually just got done with a z6 swap in my HB but I need to weld up an exhaust after thats done BAM this car will be down here and back to work on it! Althought I may be getting deployed soon so lots of fun will keep you guys posted

best beat is finding a donor car with good parts that you need then cutting them out and welding them on to your car. use a low heat because the sheet metal on the car will warp rather easily. i think honda also has replacement rockerpanels but they are pricey( but well worth it)

alright mate, i am a qualified welder in england with the same problem on my just bought crx. for my car body work and underneath, the best steel to use is called "zintec sheet", its bloody pricey and not always stocked everywhere, it bends well, hardly rusts and welds up lovely, but really mate, use anything you want, 1.5mm steel is about the size you want, you can use galv but grind the welding area clean of it, and dont breath it in, or if you are trying to keep some cash in your pocket, just use old car parts, i,e cut up a bonnett and you have enough steel to do all the cars you will ever own. cut a square hole well around the rusted area, cut a new bit the same size, tack something to it so youdont drop it inside, hold it flush to the edge of the hole you are filling and only do tacks around the edge, fillet as much as you can, dont fully weld it there be nothin left of you wing, bush it about and then body fill and prime, rub down and keep on doing that procedure untill it looks asa good as you can get, any help?

well not if u do it right. Im very good friends with a restoration shop in my area, and the owner re-do's quarters on hondas all the time, my old prelude had the rust fixed, fully cut out, and it was aweful, eating the whole panel up. he fabbed some enw quarters and went to town. 2 years later looked as good as the day i bought it. and i live in ohio and drove it for two winters.

just dont do it urself and it will last a long time.

WHAT???? DO NOT for any reason use oxy acetylene to repair any sheet metal on your car!!! Oxy acetylene wil not only totally warp the panel you are trying to fix, it will drastically change the temper of the metal in about a 6-12 inch radius around your weld. Hondas (and almost all modern cars) are built using a high -strength steel sheet metal. Which means that if you overheat the metal, it radically loses strength, and the integrity of the cars structure is compromised... BAD DEAL. Use a mig welder, and work around the repair area in small spot-style welds, cooling after each spot with a rag soaked in water!!!!

Not meaning to rant, but the horrid amount of poor info on this thread makes me shudder...

haha ok guys sorry to annouce it but this car never made it. I got to busy and with me getting ready to be deployed i pulled the b16 out of the car and sold it seperately.

Car has been sold. I put a d15z1 and tried getting that to work never got it fully functioning which irritated the hell out of me. i think i got a bad motor. but yeah i sold the car like that.

I did however use some of the steps towards my 85 Crx dx that i rewelded some spots and repainted the car.

what Pauld is what i learned from a local body shop. I plan to work in a local body shop when i get back, hopefully. i want to learn the ins and outs of the business and i have talked with the owner of one specific time a few times in reference on how to paint my car.

But yeah there is some good info on this thread and i wish i could have used it towards my car.

Good luck with those of you that are doing what i set out to do!

i saw your crx restoration and was wonderin if you would happen to have any tips for me? i have a 93 civic with MAD rust on it.. its on the rear quarters, the rocker panels, and through the bottom door jambs.. its pretty bad but i was thinken about makin it into a project car for fun.. what would you recommend me to do to fully restore it.. i saw some replacement quarters on e-bay but is there anything else i can do for the rocker panels and the inside door jams connecting to the rear quarters? any tips would be helpful.. thanks..

Strange, had admin contact me about this a couple of weeks ago.
