replacing outter tie rod ends without needing alignment?
I need to replace my driver side outter tie rod end so I figure I'll replace both of them just to have both fresh. But the thing is i plan to lower my car as soon as my springs come, which wont be for another 3 weeks im guessing since progress is on back order, and its gonna need an alignment then anyway but I need to replace the tie rod end now before it ends up breaking on me. I was thinking I could just measure the new vs. the old to make sure they are the same size and then if they are just mark on the threads where the old one was, and if the new ones are smaller or bigger, I could just measure from the bellow boot to the center of the balljoint.
What do you guys think?

just count how mant times it rotates when you screw it off and screw it back on the same # of times it should be close, i would get an alignment, but you will see when you do it it might be fine but it also might be a little off, it should be fine to drive around town with

I just bought lower ball joints and outter tie rods to replace my factory ones. I bought new wheels and tires and they said that in order to do an alignment on my car I had to get these replaced. I am in the exact same boat as you except I don't want to lower my car. I bought the parts off of ebay for around $80.00 total shipped. I haven't replaced them yet because I haven't had time.

well I just did it, took like 20 mins to do both, very easy. I was expecting them to be rust welded on. Car drives just like it used to but without the knocking in the steering. I'll get it aligned at school sometime soon.

Damn 20 minutes? Is it really that simple? What tools did you need?
How about a quick write-up for all of us since it is still fresh in your mind? That would be awesome!

ITs prity simple to replace the Tie Rod ends, use a hammer, though a NICE heavy hammer, remove the wheel, remove the cotter pin in the castle nut, Remove nut, bang on top with hammer till it pops,
Theres a JAM nut that puts pressure on the Tie Rod end, is on the steering rack side, turn that to the right just enough to unscrew the Tie Rod end, then screw the new one on till where the jam nut is, then tighten the jam nut to the left. to put pressure on the Tie-Rod end.
Simple.

Tape align it, put some tape around the old tie rod where the threads meet the tie rod before you pull it off, put the new ones on and put it all back together, then put the wheels on, lower the car, take a tape measure and a buddy and measure the front of the wheel (edge to edge) and the rear (edge to edge) make sure they are the same bada bing no alignment needed
