Default Problem with TPS sensor. Code 7.

1989 civic hatch with a B18B.

Today I was driving and someone comes up to race me, we race and i beat him and I look down and a solid CEL comes on. I drive home and notice my car is idling at like 1200. I get home, shut the car off and turn it back on and everything is fine and the CEL is gone. So I'm like hmm I wonder what made the CEL come on, so I jump the ecu. I'm pushing a code 7 which is the Throttle Position Sensor. I pop the hood and its plugged in. I start the car, its running fine, no CEL, and I unplug it. Idle goes up and the CEL comes on. so I shut the car off, plug it back in, and start the car. No CEL and its running fine. I jump the ecu again and its still pushing a code 7. So the CEL isnt on anymore, its running fine, but the ECU is stil pushing a code 7, and what would make it just come on at the end of a race?

The TPS is simple, it recognizes the position of the butterfly valve, being directly related to the air:fuel ratio.

It is possible that you damaged it, im not sure how.

Since you're unplugging the TPS over and over, you need to reset the ecu. Just pull the engine bay ecu fuse for like 30 seconds.

Leave the TPS plugged in, turn car off, unplug fuse, plug it back in, and you should be good to go.

I could be wrong, but the shock of going from a close, to wide open throttle. I could have given out the wrong reading causing the CEL to show up until the readings were normalized.

I honestly dont know man, if it doesnt show up again then fine. But if you want to test it out, go on an empty street and go to WOT suddenly and see if it happens again.

Check and make sure all your connections from the tps to the ecu are all snug and you are not getting a short. Id also check with a multi meter since I'm sure you don't have the proper machine to do a full sweep and graph the tps to make sure it isn't faulting in a certain area. But get a DMM and test the tps, ignition on it should show .5v to pins c7 and c 12 at the ecu.
