Oil Pan drain is stripped....any way to plug it up with something for a while?
i just found out that my drain is stripped. I drained all the oil out if i put oil in it leaks. Is there anyway I can just plug it up for a couple days? I got to drive it to the shop for a swap so i dont want to waste money on a new oil pan.

or you could go to your local auto parts store and see if they have one of those universal drain plugs with the rubber part that would seal it up..but sometimes they dont work too good but it may work for you...good luck

they have those universal ones, and they word great on hondas, i worked at Jiffy Lube for 3 months and i came across alot of stripped drain plugs. Alot were on hondas and i had to pu tin one of those.You could re-tap it and put in a bigger plug in

drill, tap, thread, heli-coil, bigger bolt. will work just as good as the stock one.

Just put some Honda Bond on the threads, then next time you do a oil change, just make sure you put some more honda bond on the bolt and works fine. But i guess it depends on how bad its screwed up.
You can pick up a tube for not too much at any Honda dealership, its not nearly as pricey as replacing your drain pan also.

Most autoparts stores sell oversized plugs. Its basically a plug thats just a -tiny- bit bigger than the stock 12mm plug, but not quite 13mm threads. They are tapered so they are easy to start, and cuts itself into the threads. They work pretty decent.
I've used them once or twice. The pan should definatly be replaced, but this will do for a temp fix.

word, even Honda sells them, guess they know this happens a bit.

That is the key right there. Those things work great. Self threading and they work just as well as the OEM plugs. They sell them in half sizes, so if you start with a 12mm, you can get a 12.5mm. If that one ever strips out then you can move up to the 13mm, etc...
I had to resort to that with my DA a couple years ago and a half size larger lasted all the way up until I did my swap. They are cheap too, and you cant beat that.

where can a rubber plug be found? im having same problem. and with jb weld what do i do? just cake it on the bolt or what? and for the universal ones where can that be found....amnd about the tad bigger bolts..do i jsut get it and screw it in or do i rethread it first...sorry for jacking thread i need help also

look for a drain plug called a piggy back its a larger plug to fill the stripped hole and then has a smaller plg on the inside of the big one they work fine

Pull the pan and weld it.
If it is a aluminum pan then either get a reliable shop to heli-coil it and install the correct insert; plug.
If the insert and or welding is done right you will never have to worry about having an oil leak.
Seen some of quick lube places so called fixes. One was a 00 oddessey that was helicoiled and for some reason they decided to leave shavings in the pan lol. Poor van barely made it to us. Had shaving in the oil pump which affected the oil pressure; lucky he didn't lose his engine.
Other was a 04 pilot that had its oil pan plug so tightned it was stripped and leaking. No idea if they use air guns, and just go to town.

yeah i worked at a Jiffy lube for 3 months, and i saw some bad things. One guy wrapped the drain plug with duct tape and had it screwed in there.
Another was so tight that it was stripped and leaking (lke said above)
and i know it isn't an oil drain plug, but someone broke off the tip of their 3/8 socket in a rear dif on a bronco
i got an extra $20 for getting it out

hmm....wow, great ideas guys
idk if someone has mentioned, but i have a butterfly plug on my DA.
Look for it, it "umbrellas" up into hole and when its tightened, closed it up. hard to explain the hardware used.

if you got it fixed , autozone sells new stuff now, so get your new oil pan from there,
i had this happen to me and a new oil pan is always better than a used one
