I had (and I think I read that others too) a crack in my windshied that you couldn't tell was there unless you removed the bottom trim piece. In my case, water would always pool in the passenger's side footwell. YMMV.

I have the same issue...Did you ever find the source to that? After a decent rain (Living in Northern California on the Coast doesn't help the situation) it pools up in the spare tire area in my 89 CRX HF. Need to find the leak before i replace the carpeting lol

Start at the back and work carefully and slowly. It's impossible to remove them without deforming them a little bit, but you can always bend them back into shape after you remove it.

Re: Official EF CRX/Civic water leak thread
nice info. I've got a leak on the drivers side all the way up where the top of the fender and the A pillar meet. It's inside the car where the dash and the A pillar meets (just below) and it's almost impossible to get a tube of sealer up there to seal it. I had to use a big flat screwdriver tip to get it up there but Im not able to really get it in there with any pressure. I'm almost sure this will leak again because when I felt it after it had dried it was really loose feeling. I can barely get my finger in there also. Any ideas on how to get the sealer in tight spots like this? I've got my car drivers side ripped apart to dry the carpet, seat out and undriveable until this is fixed bc I don't want to have a wet smelly car and have to do this every time after a major rain.

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever used that spray can? The one you see that infomercial for. I believe they spray it on a screen door and it floats. I ask this because I have 2 choices to get this done.
I can either have the leak fixed and located for $250 with seam seal.
Or
I could take the interrior apart myself try to locate it (I believe it shouldnt be too hard since the water trips off the trunk lifters. And use the spray can, I think its $18.
The person who painted my car said he would do this, but since it still leaks obviously he did not.
I know there is the correct way but if the spray can will do the job and save me 200+ is it worth it?

I have some standing water in my spare tire cargo hold, can these locations be the cause for water to leak in?
I also get some water in my tail lights. Changed the gaskets a while ago but may have to go back and seal them better

I have a leak in the hatch somewhere and where the water ends up is in the driver side rear area in front of the rear light and it leaks down into the wheel well. I think the problem might be the hatch seal but it looks fairly good. There is an opening in the body metal on both sides of the hatch on the driver and passenger side and it seems like the water flows down along the hatch seal into this opening and thensomehow seeps onto the rear floor and then down into the wheel well.
Any ideas?

Re: Official EF CRX/Civic water leak thread
i found a leak in my hatch recently..
after a night of heavy raining i used to find a 1 inch deep puddle of water in the spare wheel well. i took my headlights off and checked the gaskets but the looked well enough so i cleaned everything up, dried the whole thing and waited another couple of weeks. sure enough the next time it rained i found the same thing. while i was inspecting the rear for any leaks i noticed the rear lights had a water line where water had seeped in and left residue. i removed them and filled them with water and sure enough found the leaks. i cleaned the lights as best i could and sealed them with black sealant. i also taped the top of the lights with electrical tape for good measure.
turns out water running down along the roof drain channels into the crack between the rear hatch and the rear pillar and into the leaking rear lights. it would then seep out from the rear of the lights and into my wheel well. sealing the lights fixed this and i havent found another puddle since
hope this helps

Have an 87 civic hatch si (not ef but close enouph build) leaking on passengers side pooling in back seat floor. I looked around and best i can guess is the right side of the glove box where the hinge looks rusted. but really no clue.

Re: Official EF CRX/Civic water leak thread
I removed my tail lights to see if I could find a leak as described above and found (what I hope) is the source of my leak.
This album shows a single rusty bolt in my tail light, and signs of water dripping on the metal, and rust color on the gasket.
I am a little stumped as to what my next step should be. Should I try and seal the gasktet better? Should I replace that bolt as well?
Any help would be appreciated!

Here's one for you guys, it's on my drivers door. water some how gets down in between my door panel and my speaker, and will leak out of the grill as well as pool on the rocker. not a lot, just enough to be on my nerves

I just traded my eg for an ef and have water pooling on my speaker pods and cargo cover in my si, I'm going to try all of these ideas!
Great thread! Amazing info. Sticky.

Re: Official EF CRX/Civic water leak thread
i have been diagnosing and fixing several different water leak points around my crx the last several months, and finally found and fixed them all.
and a couple places i found leaks at that were'nt mentioned were: a hole through firewall with a bunch of wire harnesses and wire looms coming through, which has a rubber oval ring around hole, its around area behind or slightly above the ecu, towards the top left of pass. footwell, cause mine had water leaking through it and i filled it with black rtv silicone around from inside and from engine bay side to fix it.
another place was the hole through the firewall that the throttle cable goes through, the one that connects from the gas pedal and goes through firewall, mine had space around the black plastic thing that goes against the hole, and sealed it around with goop clear silicone from engine bay side and some more from inside to fix it.
another thing you should make sure of is to see if theres any holes through the firewall that had amp wires going through them to the battery, done from car audio installations you had done at shops in the past, check them to see if they are properly sealed around or not ??, cause they did'nt seal the hole on mine, and just realised it later on several years later, and thats why i had water in pass. floor a lot, so i sealed it good now, but i used a rubber plug to jamb in the hole first and sealed around that.

Did some rust stoppn work and leak stoppn work.
Found small rust spots hidden on the car!
Around the hood hinges under the old cracking sealant cause a leak into the passenger floor pan! (I removed the old sealant sprayed rush stopper then used fish tank sealer its paintable and clear)
the roof guides (under them cracker in the very back and front by glass)
The rear window washer sprayer
The rear hinges
Spoiler Wiring Gasket
Hatch door wiring Gasket into the body
Clogged rear sun roof tubes (or not in hole to drain out)
Speaker holes on door (check if plastic is still behind the door panel)

Re: Official EF CRX/Civic water leak thread
Behind our tailights are drainage tubes for the hatch, one on each side big hoses with small caps on the ends that drop into sleeves that drain out to the bumper area.
The cap on the hose can get clogged and start draining back out, or the hose slips out of its sleeve and the water drains into the hatch.
^main reason for water in the spare tire area.
^did that so you guys see it nothing intended by it.
