Default D16a1 starter issues

To start off please do not tell me not to do the swap and all that crap. I am doing it for a buddy and already have it mounted in. The problem that I am running into is the starter. I cannot tell if it doesn't extend all the way or it doesn't line up with the fly wheel. I am using the stock crx SI trans, clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. Every now and then it would catch on the flywheel but not all the time. And once it did catch it would only stay connected for a very short time and then come off and that was it. I know its not the starter as I have tried 3 different ones. I cannot use the stock d16a1 flywheel because it will not work with the trans. Any help would be awesome.

first i didnt even know you could use the si trans on a d16a1 block.
Wish i would have known that years ago.

i cant remember if hondas use a metal spacer plate between the crank and the flywheel.
if so, maybe that is missing.
if not,
it sounds like the flywheel is to far off from the starter
perhaps, you could put a spacer plate between the crank and flywheel.
bringing the flywheel out a hair
or if its off the other way around
make and put a spacer plate between the engine trans

just a idea i really have no experience on the subject

I don't think the spacer is a good idea. You'll have a vibration if you do that.

a very small spacer that covers the whole area, will not cause a vibration!

some cars come with them on there from factory.
