Default Need Serious Help

Hey Guys wats up. I am having major problems with my CRX. Ok first problem I am having is my CV axle boot on the drivers side is busted so grease is everywhere. Ok A few days ago my car started to overheat so I shut it off because I didnt wanna pop the headgasket and have further damage. Got it checked and it wasnt the headgasket. Ok then I start to smell something like some plastic burning. I got out and checked to see where it was coming from and when I smelled it, it smelled like it was coming from the alternator. So I also noticed to see some smoke of the same smell come through under the drivers side dash and from behind where the cd player sits. Today I changed the alternator ( alternator is from an 91 LS). When I cranked it, it squeaked and I got a battery light that didnt eve come on when I had the old alternator. So a few minutes ago I had a friend come over and he looked at it and pushed the alternator back a little bit more so the belt wouldnt have any slack. We pushed it back successfully but the battery light would not go away. Also I forgot to mention that the smell came back. Another friend said the smell could be from the busted CV axle burning grease off of my block and CV axle. I dont know what the smell is or why the battery light wont go away. Do you guys think I need to change the pulley on the alternator to fit? and is that smell the grease from the CV axle or is it a burnt wire? Oh yea motor is JDM B16 and I got the alternator off of an 91 LS so any help is appreciated help so thanks

Check the ribs in the LS pulley and the SI belt, if there off by one its kinda cat walking and eating belts. Use air when swapping pulleys.

ok cool thanks man I am going to check that in the morning. So do you think the pulley is keeping the battery light on or it may be on the ribs off catwalking the belt?

i can't tell you about the smells, but your 'replacement' alternator is bad, or not wired up right. if the light wasn't on before, then your old alternator is probably fine. i'd put it back in.
the cv boot and grease are a problem you should fix soon, and the smoke/smell behind the cd player is probably a wiring issue back there. take some pics if you can

Yea I am looking to replace the cv axles tomorrow. We took the alternator(replacement one) up to a prts store and it tested good it pulled 14.9. The smell came from under the hood but I will check the cd player wiring just to be safe
