My cars an ed6 mpfi. the problem was that every morning when i went to start the car it would crank/start but after driving it & turning it off it wouldnt start/crank. sometimes it would crank slow but still wouldnt start. i had to wait 5 minutes til it would start. i had an electrian rewire the whole car then he told me my ecu was no good anymore. that it was leaving everything on like if i had the ignition switch on but not running of course. So from there @ night before i go to sleep i unplugged the ecu or the battery so it could start everyday for work. 1 night i left it all plugged & by the morning it was drained. had to replace the battery twice cause somethings draining it. last nite i unplugged the ecu & when i plugged it back & went to start it today it didnt crank. just a click. so thats when i finally decided to grab a wrench & hit the starter & bam it started. so what do you guys think? starter, ecu or both? i want to know before i go out & buy these parts. do ecu's go bad?

well, if you hit the starter and it works, it sounds like the starter solenoid is going bad. Thats a common "test" for a bad solenoid..

If it was your ecu, your car would not run, hands down.

Another common part that fails and can cause the same problem is the main relay. They can get really hot and fail.. so check that if a new starter doesn't fix the problem.

So the main relay can heat up and or the starter sileniods probably bad huh. Ok thanks ill check that out for sure tommorrow thanks man.
