Default My K20A Type-r CRX Build

Hello fellas, I'm working on my crx getting it ready for the big K20A type-r motor. I ordered the mounts last thursday, from JDM Cars, IM jdmcars.com on here for the best price possible.

As soon as they come, I'm going to start prepping my engine bay for the big swap, and then take it to get painted again. I also added a JDM frontend, with replica JDM mugen bumper that all need painted also. This is how the car used to look 3 years ago, before I got tired of punk ricers, and gang bangin honda theifs, and parked it and parted out my NA built B16.

Today I ordered a Buddy Club EP3 short shifter for the project yes you heard right an EP3 shifter. If you've ever driven an EP3 you will know why I'm going this route, I loved that shifter, it is just right there ready for usage. The BC unit is adjustable length, and has 35% less throw. I got it for $150 Shipped off of ebay. This is the concept first done by Hasport.

I plan to make mine look allot more OEM like, panels vinyl wrapped and what not. I have no Heat or A/C, so all I have to do is relocate the radio, and the clock, and I figured I would fab up some cup holders where the old shifter was.

I'm finishing up an H22 swap in an EG sedan for a customer, but once that is done my crx will go under the knife and the motor will get ordered about the end of July. I plan to take my time on this project, and not skimp on anything, so I might use up all of that time making everything perfect. This thread might not move fast, but the end result should be good. The plan is a fun play toy, for weekends, HPDEs, and auto-xes. I will also be adding a set of racing seats, a new roof either glass of steel no more sunroof, the new Koni SPSS twinvalves, with custom rate GC coil-overs, and some AO32R wrapped 15" TE-37's. I want it to handle as well, or better than it accellerates. I will also probally add camshafts, and a few other engine mods, but I vow to keep the engine, fairly stock. Tired of working on stuff, just want to enjoy it. I just want something I can pull outa the garage punish all day long, and be rewarded with an ear to ear grin.

I plan to document all of my progress well, so you can learn from my experiences. I think this is probally the first EP3 shifter install in a CRX that will be documented, so those who have driven an EP hatch and love the shifter like I do might want to take notes.

For those entertained by picturs I decided to put them all in this post so you can see it all through the process.

Oh yeah and Videos!

Read the post guys, my shifter is in the mail. That was Hasports car. Thats where I'm getting the idea from. IMO, that looks like crap, mine will look like it came that way, when it is done. I gotta give them props for innovation, and it served the purpose just fine, but in a street car, that aluminum ain't cutting it.

Make sure that the shifter isn't too far forward on the dash. That would suck to have to reach for it. What about your HVAC controls....

Gonna use either Hasport axles or RSX base axles. I've got to call hasport about an issue on the H car, and I have a sew questions about their axles too. Oh and affirmative on the K-pro.

Toad is a good buddy of mine, he was just stickpoking. He knows my car hasn't had heat since the late 90's.

I'm suprised he hasn't talked you into putting them back in so he can hook you up with one of his faceplates

I find the HASport shifter look high. I don't know how comfortable it would be, but I would aim for a little lower. At the same time you can get the radio in and keep the stock clock area. Just my two cents.

I'd try to get that shifter a little lower when you get it.

I just talked to Brian Gilespe, and that pic was the inital conception. They moved it further out, and lower later one, they also had a stereo shop make a more OEM looking panel. He said that it was comfortable in that position. It is now floor mounted, but he said that the dash mount was fine, some people just didn't like it, and he made changes to keep getting it in magazines.

Thanks for all of the support guys. Like I stated previously this thread might not bome the fastest, but I assure you there will be some progress by the end of the week. Even if it is as simple as putting suspension back under the car, just to get it rolling, and haul it to it's new home for a few months. It hasn't seen daylight in 3 years, pretty scary.

Heck yeah, I just found out, my shifter usuage, should save me some weight also. It appears that ep3 cables are shorter, and lighter, than a RSX set, not to mention under half the money!

I'll get right on that.
