Default Mini Me vacuum leak

here is my setup

a6 block
98 y8 head
00 y8 intake manifold

i have what seems to be a huge vacuum leak where the manifold bolts to the head. but i just put a brand new gasket and torqued it to specs (at least i used the 91 civic manifold specs) any suggestions?

thanks in advance

i used the 96-00 gasket.. but i notice that the 00 intake manifold has a vacuum line fitting right where it bolts to the head, im not sure what that fitting is for so i have it capped off.

i was thinking i might just use some gasket maker and squish it in across the top of the manifold where it meets the head and see if that does the trick?? ehh.. suggestions?

oh yeah, that is kim

well that should be your problem.cap it off.if you have a vacum leak, take some gumout and spray around the intake.if there is a leak the engine will rev higher.

nope, i caped that port off already, the leak sounds like its all the way across the top of the intake manifold mounting area.. and there is no question if there is a leak or not, its a HUGE leak... the only problem it has given me is it seems to idle too high

ok folks...heads up and let tell you what your problem is. in 99 (and 2000) Y8 manifolds there is an extra "port" that goes right to the injector area that was designed to add "air assist" to help fuel injector atomization under cold start and running conditions...that is the peice you capped off. Unfortunately you missed....the peice you capped doesn't go to the air assist ports...it went to an area of the 99-00 Y8 cylinder head that distributed the air to all four of the ports.since you didn't use a 99-00 Y8 head those ports aren't blocked right now...phew...that was alot

NOW...how do you fix the problem??? easy...remove the manifold and look at the intake port...just above it you will see a small hole. this is where you vacuum is leaking. you need to plug all four of the small holes and you will be fine<i tapped the holes and installed small plugs with an allen wrench after coating the threads with sealant.> what ever you plug the holes with remember the it has to be flush with the surface of the manifold or it won't seal the intake gasket.

ok i have another question for you then...if it is the case of having to use the 96 to 98 y8 mani with the 96 to 98 head then are you gonna be able to use all the other goodies they make for the y8 period? such as the edlebrock performer x mani, the throttle body, cam??? they are not specific in what year they fit either...they only say 96+ ex parts no specifics on whether or not they wont have those 4 ports blocked correcty or not...if you have any answer plz let me know asap...i am doing the same on my 87 crx si plus i already have a turbo lined up for it set at 6psi which will be perfect for the 10.8:1 comp.

Out of curiousity, what do you do if you are building a mini me with a 99-00 intake mani and 99-00 y8 head?
