main relay problems (fuel pump primes)
ok first off my car is run on toggle switches. when i have them flipped so that its at the II spot the relay is fine. fuel pump primes everything is normal. its only when i push the last switch that the relay trips. the car will not crank. i have checked all my grounds and they seem good.
i dont know if this has anything to do with it but it ran fine up untill i pulled the dizzy off and replaced the cap. and when i put it back on i tried starting it and then after cranking it a few times and it not starting i noticed that i was stupid and in a rush since i needed my car and forgot to plug the wires (wireing harness) back into the dizzy. after i plugged them back in the main relay tripped as soon as the battery was attached. after checking the grounds im back to where i am now.
i have soldered the the main relay. also have tried a known good relay from a 91 sedan. both only trip when i go to start it it after the fuel pump primes. i remember reading there should be 3 clicks when starting the car. i only get the first 2 on both relays
also replaced both battery terminal things.
my alt is bad it was over charging my batterys. i dont know if this alo could be my problem. but i was hoping to get my car running to take it to a shop to get my new one put in.
also no cels

Re: main relay problems (fuel pump primes)
first one is like turning the key to the first spot. second switch its like the second spot. then the final switch itsnt really a switch, but more of a lever you push to the side. once it starts you let it go and it goes back. like how when you turn the key to the third spot then it goes back to the second.
and i was guessin main relay since there is a loud clicking noise like when the main relay is tripping

If I read correctly, the car doesn't even crank now.
The main relay doesn't do anything for the starter.
(The click you may hear might be the starter relay?!?!?!?)
Check your fuses.

Re: main relay problems (fuel pump primes)
ok went to re check grounds and noticed one of the 2 wires to the sensor on top of the trans. the one you can take out and fill it will oil from. then when i tried to start the car it cranked and there was no relay trip. it had a few blips of starting while it was cranking but wouldnt turn over. im thinking that it isnt getting spark since it wont start of starterfluid when its cranking. so thats the next thing i will be checking.

Re: main relay problems (fuel pump primes)
ok i checked spark and i have weak spark at all plugs. i already have a new cap and might as well just get new wires and plugs just since mine are old maybe it will help. although i am guessing its the ignition coil. i will be getting that also. i guess more updates on my problem once i get that.

well quoted at 130 from the stealership for the coil. autozone is 75 for duralast coil. any opinions on if the dealership one will be that much better to spend an extra 60 on it
