ls Vtech b16 vs. b18
is there any difference between putting a gsr head on a ls vtech vs putting a b16 head on the same ls vtech....like advantages and such. lemme know which would be better.

Re: ls Vtech b16 vs. b18 (vuse1)
i have heard both that the b16 head flows better and then i have heard that the gsr head flows better b/c of the way its inlet ports are shaped (starighter and not as L-shaped as the b16) if it were me i would save $$$ and get a b16 head as i assume this is going into an ef and you will be running obd0. gsr heads go for at least double what a pr3 b16 head does. but hey, the gsr head will deff have more power stock with a slightly better and certainly much newer valvetrain.

B16 is easier to upgrade because ITR/CTR intakes bolt right in...however B18C head has newer valvetrain and smaller combustion chambers for higher compression=more power. I'm using a GSR head on a LS block with Skunk2 intake/BBK 70mm throttlebody + secret seasoning and there you go...daily driver V8 killer!

The b16 head does flow better than the GSR but if you are planning on porting it then it doesn't really matter. The main difference between the heads is the IM bolt pattern (you won't be able to bolt up a OEM ITR manifold or a B16A) so you'll have to go with a Skunk2 or keep the stock one. I personally like the stock manifold just take out the secondary butterfly. Also the GSR head will raise ur compression about 0.2-0.3 over the B16A head because of it's smaller combustion chamber volume (P72=41.6cc and the P30/PR3=42.7cc). A simple LSVTEC motor with B16A pistons and a GSR head will yield a compression of 11.6:1 and the same setup with a GSR yields a compression of 11.9:1. Those are the main differences that you'll be dealing with!!!!

A new ITR longblock (head + block) goes for about 2300 from Naples Acura. I'm not sure about the cost of the LS block, but after you do all of the things to it to make it as strong as the ITR block (mainly the main cap girdle), the LS ends up being pretty expensive unless you get the block for little to free.

I wish I had a dig. camera.. lol, right in front of me is my Vtech Communications LTD. telephone.. btw: it's a pos!
Just got with a b16 head and put a CTR/ITR valvetrain (you can buy a complete one for about 800$ MAX!). Then you will have a bitchin' head! you could even port and pollish it and add a larger throttle body.. either way it cheaper than a gsr head.
