L3 transmission problem (91 honda Civic) Main shaft bearing problem?
My transmission is making a loud whining/grinding noise when accelerating and under load. Does this sound like the main shaft bearing going bad? If it is, I plan on changing it myself. Is there a gasket between the clutch housing and the main housing? I do not see one listed in the parts available at http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/. I plan on buying the bearings from them. For the cost, I will probably buy all of the bearings for the main shaft and countershafts. Is there anything else I should buy?

i thought i had a mainshaft bearing going too. it was a grumbling noise you could feel at around 30-40mph if i remember correctly.
yes, there is a seal on the other side of the bearing. i ordered this.
1 91002-PS0-003 BEARING (26X58X15) $20.02
1 91216-PL3-005 OIL SEAL (26X42X7) $5.55
turned out to be one of the big differential bearings totally gone.
i replaced the diff with another diff with a good bearing. replaced the input shaft bearing and two axle seals and all is good.

My noise is consitant through all gears , all the time unless the clutch is pushed in. The clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, flywheel, and pilot bearing were replaced this last weekend. The noise was present before the clutch replacement. I was hoping the clutch would have fixed it..
