Default Kill switch question??????

im planning on adding a few kill switches in my car i found a few write up. where they use a relay a toggle switch, can i add a fuse to it so if by some reason the kill switch wire get overloaded it blow the fuse n dosent fry anything else? or is it a waste of time? n if i can add the fuse where do i connect it to?

Whoa. You are a little confused. The relay SHOULD act as a fuse also. The black square relay does this at least. You can add an additional fuse to the system. The relay goes to a toggle switch, correct? Run an inline fuse to the switch.

That's a cheap inline fuse you can find at walmart. So you would follow your write up to the T. But where they put the toggle switch, you just add the fuse between one connector on the switch and the wire that goes to the switch.

Too easy.

Technically a relay does not act like a fuse, more like an electronically activated switch. But adding a fuse to the switched power to the relays coil wouldnt be a bad idea, like freemanana said

Maybe I had something special or read it wrong (or am remembering it wrong) but I thought I had a couple relays that were somehow like a fuse. I understand that a relay is like a switch though. There is never harm in adding a fuse.

What is this kill switch killing? I would get the same AMP fuse as the device it is controlling. Let say your fuel pump uses a 15A fuse. This switch is ran inline with the fuel pump. I'd put a 15A inline with this switch so it's the same as the device. If you go lower than what the device is using it will pop prematurely. If you go over, it will be useless because the actual fuse for that item will go first. Hope that makes sense.

The inline fuse is pretty much a useless idea.

Lets say you put the relay in line with the fuel pump. well, the fuel pump already has a fuse, right? So you aren't gaining anything by adding another fuse.

Just tap power from fused sources and you don't need more fuses.

If you wanted to use the fuse AS the toggle switch, that's an interesting idea. You could have a blown fuse to put in it's place and it would take awhile to figure that out.

Hmmm. I have a set of 10A switches that I use for everything and have never had problems. I used one for my CEL light. I've used them for my accessory power on my baja bug and I used the same switches to run the lights. Any switch SHOULD work really.

If you're using the switches with relays, they should only be powering the coils. Any amp will work for that.

The relay amperage is what you need to be concerned with. It has to handle or exceed the amperage of the circuit you are cutting into.
For your switch(es), use a switched ground to trigger rather than +voltage.

If the fuel pump is run on a 15 amp circuit, then yes.

and i quickly googled it for you to verify your fuse for the fuel pump is 15 amps

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/fuel-pump-fuse-3007691/

if it looks like #37 on the fuse block as illustrated in the thread i linked, you're good to go!
