Default Just ripped off front windshield molding... any advice? (4g4d)

I just ripped off the front windshield molding last night. it's all worn, gross, and was in the way of my rust removal.

The molding looked like #7 in this picture:

As I'm reading the product descriptions I notice that #7 says, "molding with windshield removal." #6 just says, "molding."

Since my windshield has not been removed, does that mean I am supposed to buy #6 for a replacement?

I really don't want to buy #7 and have it not be able to snap on correctly.

Any advice is appreciated.

BTW, rust is a PITA, and so are the previous owners of my car.

If you have it all apart, i would replace everything you can your hands on. New of course. Its kinda like getting new rims, but using worn tires if you dont

#7 has a metal channel in it that slides around the window before you install it.
#6 installs on windows that are already in the car.

So since my window is still on my car, #6 would be the right one for me.

Thanks.

yes when you go to the dealer they will ask you with or without window removal, i just replaced mine but i took the window out to repaint, its not cheap either it comes in a 4 foot long box they dont fold it up its a huge box it was kinda funny getting a box that big for a little gasket

yeah, it was something like $75 online. I figure it's worth it to make my car look good after the repaint.

BTW, I'm doing all of the sanding, dent pulling, bondo, rust removal, primer myself and then taking it to Earl Schieb to have them paint it. I figure with all of the molding/emblems/trim removed, all of the stuff primed/sanded/clean the earl schieb paint job can't be too bad.

Now the down side is that I've been working on it for the last 4 weeks, and I have another few weeks to go.

I want to see pics when you get it painted
Should turn out nice and puuuuurrrrtay as long as the painter that shoots it doesn't put it on all heavy and drippy :S

Don't worry, I'll post it. I scratched the hell out of a door using one of those paint stripper drill bits the other week. I used bondo to fill in the scratches, but now I'm thinking of just dropping another $40 on a new door. The bondo is flaking off when I sand it. I'm just a little too **** for this thing to be screwed up.

In regard to the molding around the front windshield, all of the ones I've seen at the junkyard that have the #6 are all black, while the #7's are all silver. Do they make the #6 strip in silver?

I ordered my #6 from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and it is silver.
You may want to call the place you order it from and specify black or silver.

I have a question:

Can you take off the windshield without breaking it?

if you're talking about #7, I took mine off without breaking the windshield, but not without breaking the trim. The trim is all bent and contorted now.... hence I have to buy a new one.

It is difficult to get off b/c it has the metal piece in there wrapped around the glass. It seems that breaking it is really the only way.

Contact a dealer, or an auto-glass specialist. They get wholesale prices and keep them lower than most dealers. Call before 10am because most get their parts deliveries before then.
