Jdm b16a idling white/greyish smoke.
Hey guys my jdm b16a is now idling smoke, it use to blow out smoke while accelerating fast hitting vtec, now it's just idling smoke now, should I switch oil from 5w30 to 10w40? And see if that makes a difference ?

If its water wouldn't you loose coolant in the rad? My coolant is still topped of, and I haven't been losing any of it inside my rad.

I just started the car on the cold start, I noticed when it idles at a cold start no smoke comes out, but when it eventually worms up and you start revving , it would blow smoke out then idle with smoke. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Please just take a read. I posted this when I was new to Honda's. Not saying I still am not new. I posted pic's of my tail pipe, and the water coming out(mine had brown gunk because of the exhaust) in the thread, take a read, it's not to long. It ended up being the HG like most said. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/white-smoke-brown-gunk-3108309/

I can't afford to do a head gasket job, is it okay to drive it like that? Compression is still good and it still pulls hard

Mine never overheated and I drove it like that... It didn't lose water either, but after I rebuilt the head, it stopped. So that's why I say HG because I had the exact same issue as you and I was tripping. But as for driving it isn't the best, but it can be done. You will more or less just run it into the ground. If you want to try and change the HG it really isn't that hard. Get a friend to help. You can leave the block in car. The hard part IMO is just putting every hose back in the correct place.

K thank for letting me know ill just drive it like this until I have the time ,or have the money to pay someone to do it. I hope I don't warp the head driving it like this.

do it yourself, its cheaper and its a good thing to learn; my last car blew threw head gaskets like a **** and i had to change em every couple weeks.
/if/ you do decide to do it yourself, take your head to a trusted machine shop and have them check for warpage and if you're within tolerance leave it be, maybe have it magnafluxed to ensure you dont have a crack or anything near where the water goes through.
just be caution and watch out for it hydro locking, that is when you know your SOL and end up having to soak the water out of the hydrolocked cylinder(s) with a rag :/
