ignition timing off?
okay guys so I swapped out my D15B2 cam and put in a D16A si cam into my 91 civic. I replaced the timing belt (using a d15B2 belt) and set-up the cam timing to the D15B2 spec.
Strangely when I went to adjust my ignition timing at 800 RPM and the ecu connector jumped with a paperclip my timing was just able to read 12 degrees with the dizzy pushed all the way towards the firewall.
How come my timing is out by so much? My Si can easily go to 20+ degree advance.
I set the cam timing marks as per the D15B2 spec and NOT the d16a6 cam timing. Of course I checked the crank to make sure its at tdc and made sure the valves didn't contact before starting it. It starts just fine and everything on it runs great. I just can't figure out why the timing marks that it should be set at are so hard to attain.
Can anyone here elaborate on a solution?

but to use D16A6 cam specs on a d15b2?
I thought that there was a slight timing issue using a D16A6 cam on a D15b2 motor.

got my timing to be really close to where it should be.
I set the cam to D16A6 cam timing spec and then reattached the timing belt and then I checked for valve clearance followed by ignition timing adjustment.
The best timing mark I can get it is between the first line and the middle line. I think that is approximately 13 BTDC. I think that will be good enough.

The cam timing is advanced by 4.5 degrees when you put a 1.6L cam into a 1.5L motor. Putting a Y7/Y8 cam gear on will zero the cam out perfectly because their key way is retarded by 4.5 degrees over the '88-'95 D-Series cam gears.
