How to tell if i have a blown Headgasket or a cracked Cylinder Head?
Hey guys just the the topics says....
How can i tell if i have a blown headgasket or cracked cylinder head?
I have performed a leak down test which was 8% on all cylinders and also a compression test of 270 on all cylinders. Which showed no sign of a blown headgasket. But i have alot of air going into my cooling system and i wanted to know if there was a test i could perform which would prove which of the 2 the air is comming from. Thanks !

Re: (doublek)
Take it to a machine shop for "magnaflux and dye checking" to determine if there really is a crack or not. If not then best bet is the gasket is defective or failing.
Hope this helps in some way

Also, You said you did a compression check??? Try puting about a teaspoon of oil right down into the cylinder and do the compression check, if the compression is suddenly helped and rises much faster and higher then without the oil, its a sign your piston rings are shot.. Hope you get it figured out ....

He said his compression numbers were 270 across the board. Sounds like everything is good. I wouldn't go and take the engine apart for no reason yet...

Yes 270 sounds good espcially across the board, but for ***** and giggles you put oil down in where the spark plug is placed and let it enter through that hole It has nothing to do with taking apart the engine at all. If the numbers begin to vary when oil is added, that would point to piston rings being worn.,,,,
