Default How-To: 90-93 Integra Seats into 90/91 Civic Sedan with auto seat belts. Long!

I apologize ahead of time for this being long. I'm trying to be as thorough as possible. It's also hard to take pictures of most of the steps as I did this without the intention of doing a write- up. Maybe if one of you goes through with this, you can take step-by-step pictures to help the other guys out.

For the record, I tried every combination of rails for this seat swap. Some of them worked, some of them needed a ridiculous amount of spacers and longer bolts, or enlarged holes etc. Trial and Error proved to me that this is the best way to get the seat in the right position and have it sturdy at the same time.

I don't know if this applies you CRX/Civic Hatchback guys. You've got it pretty lucky as you don't have to do deal with the automatic seat belt crap, so if you want to read through this, be my guest. Throw in some Si seats if you want to upgrade.

First, you need a set of 90-93 Integra seats and a Civic Sedan with the stock seats.

Other tools required:

Welder

A good drill with some good drill bits

Dremel with the reinforced cut-off wheel

Seats

Car

Here's what you do to make the seat fit:

1) Put the Civic inner rail onto the Integra seat.

2) Take the outer rail off of the Integra seat and also take it off of the Civic seat.

3) Drill out the seat mounts from both the Civic outer rail and also from the Integra inner rail. I believe there are going to be two spots on each mount that you're going to need to drill out. Drill them all the way out, but don't mangle them.

4) Take the Civic mounts that you removed from the Civic rail and bolt them back into the floor. Get them nice and tight and straight.

5) Bolt the mount-less Integra outer rail back onto the Integra seat. Hook up the adjust-lever wire and set the seat down into place in the car. Bolt the inner rail down really good and line the front of the Integra rail up with the front of the Civic seat mount. The back mount will also be lined up but there will be a few inches of overhang from the rail.

6) Tack weld the mounts into place onto the rails, or mark them very, very good and spot weld the mounts onto the rail from outside the car. Whichever you feel is safer...I don't want you to catch your seat on fire or cause bodily harm to your person. The key here is accuracy. If you weld it up outside of the vehicle, make sure to mark it very good. There's little room for error here, as I learned. I had to cut a mount off and re-weld it because I didn't mark it good the first time around.

Note that even if you spot weld the mounts into place while in the vehicle, you'll need to remove the seat and finish up the weld out of the vehicle.

It should look like this when you're done. Pardon my crappy welds, it was pretty much my first time ever welding. I banged on these with a hammer for a few minutes. I don't think I have much to worry about.

Then you need to get your seat belt assembly mounted to the inner rail. This may actually need to be done first. I don't remember. It has been well over 5-6 months since I rigged all this up.

My seats didn't come with the Integra seat belt assembly, but it is pretty much the same as the Civic. It is the automatic style...so if your seat came with it, great. You can use whichever you want, but you'll need to modify either one.

The distance between the two mounting holes are different between the Civic and the Integra. Since you're using a Civic inner rail, it's easier to use the Civic seat belt assembly as it bolts to the rail just fine. One of the mounting holes needs to be enlarged to fit the Civic assembly on the Integra rail; and vice versa. It's no big deal, though. The cut you see on the Civic seat belt assembly is what I had to make when I was originally using an Integra inner rail. Take my word for it...using the Civic inner rail gives the best seat position.

With the Integra inner rail, the seat sits slightly off-center and it's very annoying while driving. Something feels 'off' and you can't quite figure it out. Very bothersome! It also made the seat belt assemblies rub the center console.

Civic Seat Belt Assembly attached to Integra seat

Now, notice something in this picture.

See the seat hinge? Well, that piece comes down and bolts to the Integra seat rail. It is part of the Integra seat rail. So basically what you need to do is cut that section off of the Integra seat rail, and then weld it to the Civic inner seat rail. You need the two pieces to end up flush with eachother, so don't expect to just weld it on top. They need to be flush because the seat belt mounts at this location.

It sounds hard, but as soon as you have the two apart and you're looking at them you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. The piece I cut off of the Integra is about 1" wide...you can see exactly what I'm talking about if you follow the hinge all the way down (in the picture) to the rail.

Trace the rough outline, cut it off with a dremel, bolt it to the seat pan along with the Civic rail and then run a bead along the two pieces.

You can see where I did this...it's the shiney part. Most of it is hidden by the seat belt assembly. This part doesn't have to be pretty..it just has to be strong. You won't see ANY of it, so don't worry about cosmetics.

If you don't do this part your seat won't stay together, so it's pretty important.

I know all of this probably reads rather vague, but it's actually very straight-forward. As soon as you have the two seats apart and you're looking at it, it's going to make perfect sense.

In a nutshell: Use Civic inner rail on Integra seat. Weld Civic outer rail mounts onto Integra rail. Retrofit inner hinge support onto Civic rail. Bolt on seat belt assembly. Done.

Some of this is hard to articulate, and for that I apolgize. If there are any pictures you need details of, let me know. I'll try to get some more tomorrow morning.

Finished product that is solid, level, and in the proper position. No wobbling or slight off-centerness due to ghetto bolts, enlarged holes, spacers or blocks of wood:

Wow, I never noticed how ugly those sedan seats really were!

Good writeup. It looks awesome.

Yeah, if you notice, they're completely different from the HB seats. Not only different fabric, but the actual foam is a completely different shape.

They're much more comfortable IMO than the stock HB seats, though. They're actually not half bad except that they look gross.

I wanted to ask if you switched the seats (ie. drivers side on passenger side)? I've heard of this before but I would like them to fit in there correctly.

Also, do you think there is room for an Integra consol also?

No, I did not switch seats.

And absolutely no...there's no more room with the Integra seats than there is with the Civic seats.

You see that 2" of space between your seatbelts now? That's exactly how it's going to end up with Integra seats.

And thus is my current project. Custom bolt-in OEM style sedan armrests available soon!

Those are some clean ED3 seats. Please tell me you didn't stick them on the curb when the DA seats went in...

My seats are cleaner In all reality I have now come to the realization that my stock seats are super ugly compared to the DAs and after finals are done I think it will be time for some more junkyard scavenging. How far is the color off from the grey interior on the seats? Yay, nay?

I'm not sure what exactly you're asking?

Are you asking how the grey DA seats look in a sedan? If so, I don't know....I've never seen a grey DA seat. I've never seen a black DA seat either. All I've ever seen are tan and blue.

Or if you're asking how blue DA seats look in a grey interiored sedan? I'm converting my interior to grey but I'm also getting my DA seats recovered in red leather.

Well then, it proves my eyes are broken as the seat and the interior looked grey to me... my eyes.

I don't have the auto seat belts. I would think that this would make a difference.

What are your plans for this custom arm rest deal?

If you don't have auto seatbelts then yes, you can do exactly like what the hatch guys do

I'll be mass-producing bolt-in armrest for us sedan guys. Should be finished up and producing them by Christmas, or shortly thereafter.

I'll also have Integra-Civic sedan custom hybrid gauge cluster assemblies finished by that time. 100% bolt in and OEM looking.

Sedan love
