help with a crx with b16 swap..battery drains out
just got my car out of the shop and it was sitting for a while. now my battery keeps draining out. some of my friends told me it was because of my battery but when i put in my battery from my daily driven car it drained that one too. any suggestions? the car starts up fine with a freash battery but then drains it out after about 20mins of driving.

Was your car doing that before it went into the shop? What were they working on? Anything electrical? I would take your car to autozone or advanced auto parts and have them run a battery test. They check the alternator, the battery strength, and the starter pull. This will at least tell you what isnt the problem. They may even help you diagnose the problem right there. And the best part is........its free! That service is free of charge.

yea thats easily your alternator.. thats what charges your battery, if its bad then all the energy gets drained out and there is nothing getting put back in.... I think b16 are known for this for my battery has trouble staying charged..

Seawater and salty air causes corrosion... guess where all those imported engines lived for 6-8 weeks of their lives... on a boat... Distributors, alternator internals etc... all get corroded. Alternators are less likely to fail. I can safely say 70+% of B16 dizzys are DOA.

if i take it back to the shop where i got it done at would they most likely take responsibility for it and fix it free of charge or would i have to pay for it. i ask this because i juss got it out a couple weeks ago and only put 100 miles on it. if not how much would it cost me to fix? oh and thanks for the help guys

Your shop won't do anything for you. You need to get a new alternator. I'm not sure which USDM car you can get it for but I *believe* the Del Sol VTEC will work. Expect around $200 or so for a new alternator.

Re: help with a crx with b16 swap..battery drains out
Hey, I'm having the same problem. I just bought a b16a jdm swaped crx. It sat for 2 years after being built. It ran fine the night we brought it home and started the next day.But we knew the main relay was bad so we fixed that and after putting it back in the battery started draining. we tested the battery and the altenator was only putting out 10 volts. So i bought a new altenator. The car has been running like **** with a full tank of 2 year old gas but were also trying spark plugs and the cap and rotor. but the battery is still draining out and we can't find out why.... help???
