Default Headlight problem on 1989 CRX Si

Hello, I have a CRX Si that I bought new in 1989. Great car, and every day the gas prices go up it keeps getting better and better. I do have a problem with the headlights though. In the beginning the lights would occasionally not come on until a couple of seconds before they were switched on. Recently it took almost a minute before they came on. Now the other night I was driving and the headlights started to flicker, sometimes going off for a few seconds before coming back on. Of course this is unsafe, and unacceptable. Oh yes, this is only the low beams. The high beams work normally, both when selected and in the "flash" mode. The tail lights and parking lights all work normally too. I looked in the Haynes manual and was surprised to see that there is no headlight relay. I'm thinking that this must be the switch, but when it acted up I played with the switch and it didn't seem to make a difference. Has anyone had a problem like this or have any suggestions to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

its probably the combination switch on the steering column. make sure the bulbs are plugged in snuggly, check grounds (I think there is a "ground box" near the headlights, it has a bunch of grounds)

sounds like a bad connection to me...take the connectors off at the headlights and look for corrosion. try cleaning the contacts and/or bending them for a tighter fit. do you have a voltmeter?? check to make sure you are getting 12 volts, pos and neg.

on the passenger side there is also a tiny box where many grounds connect. possibly a problem there. lastly, i would suspect the switch at the steering wheel.

good luck!
