Default Gutted my interior..want some sound deadening.

I just stripped the interior out of my project crx and I would prefer to not put it back in because it looks like ****, but I also don't want a noisy car. Is there some kind of sound deadening I can put in that won't weigh too much?

On another note I will be getting pics and making a thread to log my project soon, its an 88 dx with plans for paint, manual conversion, and b-series swap over the summer.

Loud stereo. i've heard about people using spray on rhino liner, not sure on how well it sound deadens but I'm sure it would help....may be heavy though.

I did this to my project like all the stock sound stuff

and well I don't here anything to tell u the truth

I have the carpet maybe that is what is deflecting the sound

but I did take out about a good 40-60 pounds front to back

so good luck and well why would u like to take that out and replace???

it would be the same **** to me

just remove it

Dynamat obviously works, but it works by adding mass to the sheet steel to stop vibrations (both big vibratiosn that sound like a rattle as well as small vibrations you might not otherwise notice as something other than "noise"). Adding mass is about the opposite of what you seem to want.

To be honese, the OEM plastic interior is about the cheapest and lightest material you can use to make the interior quiet. Without it, your best bet is carpet the floor and keep the headliner in.

The above statement is very true.

I never understood why people strip their interior. You're not saving any weight. Go ahead and weigh your carpet/plastic pieces...they weigh nothing. If you want to lose weight, go on a diet.

hmm i disagree. i mean if you just take out the rear interior yea....maybe a waste of time. but if u do the seat, all panels, bumper supports, etc etc then every little thing adds up yanno? once i'm done stripping my car i'll throw everything on a scale and weigh them and list each item and see how much weight i exactly took off my car and post up.

I ordered a carpet from them, its very nice and not that expensive. Dynamat is heavy if you're going to line the entire car with it. Doesn't look good either. I'd say get a new carpet kit, it will deaden plenty of the sound, as it did in my civic.

Thanks for the tip, I might actually order their carpet just cause it will be brand new...but im mainly looking for something to put in the hatch besides the interior pieces.

according to dynamat, you only need a small piece to deaden a whole panel, and ive seen it demonstrated in person at a local car stereo store. it seems to work really well in the demo anyway.

i used some spray on bedliner material i found at part store it is only 7 bucks a can and you can put as little or as much on as desired. i used 4 cans in the rear portion behind front seats. the stuff looks better than sound deader and is paintable. my hatch is way quietier now and didnt gain hardly any weight. i also bought .020 aluminum sheeting and covered big holes on sides. looks way racey. i put 1/4 carpet pad on sheeting on back so it wouldnt rattle. the sheeting with pad didnt add but mabye 1 pound. i took and brushed the aluminum or you can leave it polished.
