Fuel gauge VERY inaccurate?
My gauge will fluctuate 1/4 of a tank depending on whether I got up hill or downhill. I parked on a curved road once and the tank went from almost empty to full. It's also very inaccurate.
One day I was nearing the empty mark on a flat road, so I turned downhill to get to a gas station. halfway down the hill there's a stop sign. My car died out there. Wouldn't start back up. 20 seconds of cranking later, it started back up and ran fine. Then at the intersection it died again. This only happens when going downhill though. seems like if you're on a hill, the gauge will read it's at 1/4 tank even when it's actually empty. Anyone else get this?

Re: Fuel gauge VERY inaccurate?
i have something kinda like that problem on my ef.
my gas gauge never stays full. it will show i have gas after a fill up and then drop and tries to go up after driving a mile or two.
it tends to say low gas most of the time for mine. even on E, i can drive another 90 miles.
there is a sender in the gas tank, they tend to go bad after a while. i guess it should being its submerged in gas all the time and mine is made of metal and copper wires for internals.
i had called a dealership to see if i can get a new one, he said for the 91 civic's they no longer have any of them from the main honda ware house.
so i decided to try to fix mine first.
i was playing with it yesterday to see how it works. i think i either fixed the problem or really f'ed it up more cause since then i have not seen my fuel gauge move from full, but then again i haven't driven it enough for it to move. so i am going see after a week, being this is not being driven very much, if it moves.

Re: Fuel gauge VERY inaccurate?
who needs a fuel gauge? simple formula
mpg*(fueltank size-2gal)=miles on trip when you NEED to fill the tank
If you keep running your tank out of gas youll kill your pump and damage the engine running it lean.
