Default engine sounds change... cold weather.. happens to you????

k this its the deal.. its being cold here... was like 10-20 last week.. i have come to notice that my engine sounds its getting louder... my intake sounds in other words.... actually my engine roars on VTEC.. but lately it sounds xtremely loud... almost sound like a H22 VTEC with exhaust.... the noise doesnt bother me, bc the sounds its very sweet.. runs normal on 1st ....but actually sometimes it feels like the car istn pulling a lot after 5k rpms on 2nd and 3rd.... now.... after engine its warm, its runs normal and the noise doesnt go as loud.... I use Havoline 10w-30 oil.... u think the oil its too thick??
kinda weird how the engine sound changes and the performance it s affected soemtimes..
anybody can give me some inputs on a faulty oil pump.... thats about all i can think that might not be working good when cold... anywyas give me some input.... thanxs

you should be preheating your engine in that type of weather anyway, poor motor you can do some serious damage that way.

your cars are back firing b/c colder air is more dense which leads to a lean situation in your engine. if it back fires after warming up, that is not good...

Very true what Breaka said, I learned this this year with my IC installed. Car runs fine in the summer, not lean at all, as soon as it turned below 32 the car runs lean hitting boost, I found out that the denser air is making it run lean. So instead of fixing it Im just not driving it in the winter "Cheap ***!" This would cause your car to backfire.

Geez Eric you are really cheap... haha Why don't you get a "real" engine management system and toss that fmu setup. Have you ever thought of running the afc hack? It would be perfect for your setup. Anyway breaka is right the colder air is denser and it will backfire and sound louder because the car is running a little leaner than if it was say 70 degrees out.

I am not totally understanding; what about the denser air makes the car run leaner?

more dense air has more mass and is harder to compress. this leads to a leaner sitaution.

note: i am pretty sure of my above statement, but someone correct me if i am wrong.

but actually sometimes it feels like the car istn pulling a lot after 5k rpms on 2nd and 3rd.... now.... after engine its warm, its runs normal and the noise doesnt go as loud
Why are you revving your car past 5k rpms when the engine is cold?

my bad for the wrong expression... what i ment is that the needle its on a warm location, but not totally hot... half way normal temperature.. and yes i take it to 5k sometimes to warm up (not right off the bat).. specially when i have been driving 5 min and the inside of car tis still cold as a ****......

but as for a update... i noticed today the same thing... i got a vtec light indicator.. wich tells me if the vtec solenoid cable has voltage... anyhow... i could tell that VTEC wasnt actually kicking in..... the sound of engine was loud... but wasnt pulling at all..... moments later pulled nice and vtec sound was there.......
now my question and fear is that i hope my VTEC solenoid isnt going bye bye.. if thats the case... how hard its to replace the solenoid?? ( i sound like i newbee considering i already took this off when rebuilding the head) is the complete section onn the side to be replaced?? or just the solenoid itself... any aftermarket ones , like the ones for B series....also does anyone has ever measured the real voltage thats the ecu sends to the solenoid???.... if thats the case i can make a lil circuit that will regulate the voltage to the solenoid , so my MSD doesnt fry it....
come one people,, lets put our heads togheter and find out the real voltage of a P28 sent to the solenoid....

i try to let my car warm up about 10 mins before driving, if its cold. ive never had any hesitation or backfiring. it just seems to run better warm, after all our engines are made to rev,so let em get oil circulating!

i granny shift my car (under 3k rpms) until the heat coming out is REALLY warm. then i have more fun with the car.

one thing i did notice on my civic hatch is that when the temp gauge is reading warm, the oil pressure is still high. it takes another 5 minutes of driving before the oil pressure is normal (and this is during warm weather driving...i don't drive the car in the winter).
