Default doing valve adjust & ignition timing adjust, which one do i do first ?

its been a while since doing either of these,

i need to do a valve adjustment and also was going to adjust my ignition timing too,
i remember there was some order you had to do them, but forgot?

do you have to do the ignition timing adjustment first and then do the valve adjust ?

or is it the other way around ? just wanted confirmation since its been a while,

(car is 90 crx si with dohc zc motor)

i do the valves first, i do them by looking at rotor , not sure how ign timing being off would effect that

Ignition timing wouldn't affect valve lash. I would still adjust the valves first though.

The manual only says to do the adjustment when the head is cold, It also recommends re-torqueing the crank pulley after the adjustment is done (this is for a B18C1).
There is no mention of ignition timing.

I know this is a bit off topic but I have noticed with newer model Honda's valve adjustment are only called for if the valves are making noise. If they are quiet they recommend leaving them alone.

you say it might not need a valve adjustment if the valves are'nt making noise, and are quiet, could anybody describe what would be considered "making noise" ?

would it be a ticking sort of sound ?, if so, would it be loud enough of a ticking sound where you would hear it even standing back in front of the car ?,
or would it be a ticking sound that you can only hear if putting your head close to the top of the engine ?

my engine is'nt really ticking loud or anything, but to me it just seemed like it was'nt as smooth as it used to sound, and i just thought i would do a valve adjustment to make sure it was all set right, making sure the valves were'nt set too loose or too tight, so it runs the best it could and make run as quiet as possible too.

another reason i thought it might be good to do a valve adjustment is cause my timing belt snapped on me going 60mph on the highway a year ago, and i was lucky because i had a mechanic put new timing belt and it started up fine and has run the same as before it snapped without any signs of damage, but i wonder if it would of threw anything off as far as valve adjustment settings when it snapped or not ?, i mean would that be a reason to do one ? since the t-belt snapped ?

last time i did valve adjustment was 80k miles ago, so seemed like time to do again. my motor is a DOHC ZC, and i don't know how many miles are on it, so im just trying to keep up with any tune-up stuff to keep it running long as i can.
