hmmm did some seraching
is it true i can use any year si CABLE tranny and it will fit into my axles?
i belive 88 has differnt spline count on input shaft whereelse 89-91 are all the same
since im dropping in a d15b can i leave the d15's flywheel in and bolt on the si tranny?

All L3 trannies are compatible with all 88-91 axles.
The difference lies in the outer hub splines. i.e., if you use STD/HF hubs, you must use STD/HF axles, but any transmission will work.
