Default D16z6 compression help

Ok I looked up what psi is good and no one had a deff answer. I got 150psi as the highest and 130psi the lowest. My jump back was dying when I did this test. The engine is outside the car I want to make sure it's ok before it goes in. So are my numbers low? I will retest tomorrow when my jump pack is at 100% charge.

No one knows the answer? Really? That's hard to believe.

i believe, it needs to be 200-230 in each cylinder. that seems to me as pretty low.

150psi is not too bad considering the engine is cold, and the engine should be at operating temperature. the 130 at lowest is of more concern though because its quite a big variation. it should run fine, but it's hard to say. retest after adding a bit of oil to each cylinder and see if the number goes up significantly. if so, the compression rings are leaking, but again they may be doing so more because of the cold engine. if the compression stays where it was from the pre-oil test then it's more likely a valve sealing issue.

Ok just did the retest. 165 was the highest the lowest was 155psi. A stronger jump pack helps the numbers go up and it was dying again on the last one with 155psi. So I'll say 160 as an average psi. Is that a decent test?

Ok and I will add again this engine is not in a car and hasn't run in at least 8 months. So the engine was like 50 degrees when this test was done and I was using a jump pack. So I don't know if these factors matter. I plan to rebuild this motor for the summer but I am going to run it stock till summer. I don't want to drop in a bad engine. P.s. When cranking there are no noticeable knocks or taps.

is that with the oil then?

if so, thats not too big of an increase which is good. leads me to believe its more of a cold issue. and if you didn't add oil and it went up to those numbers this time around, then those are plenty high. no reason it won't run just fine with those kind of numbers.

Ok thank you for the input I didn't know what psi is good or bad. I guess I'll go ahead and do the swap.

standard psi for the z6 should be in the range of 135-184 psi, with a maximum variation between any 2 cylinders no greater than 28 psi. anything in the middle to higher range would certainly be considered pretty good. since your engine was cold and you found 155-160 psi i'd say the motor sounds pretty healthy in that respect.
