CRX key question
I am purchasing a 91 CRX HF, but the keys for the doors and hatch locks are missing. We have the ignition key as the ignition lock was replaced due to a theif destroying the previous before the last owner purchased the car, but we can not find the OEM keys for the outer locks. Does anybody know if a Honda dealer can get this done for me? Should I bypass the dealer and have a private locksmith do it for me? Is it even possible for a locksmith to make new keys for an existing car lock without a reference key? Thanks in advance guys, I really appreciate your help!

A locksmith should be able to re-key the doors and hatch to the ignition key.
More than $3 bucks though. However you would have to have two keys this way.

Pull pass. side door panel off, take bolts (2) out of exterior door latch, remove retainer, remove tumbler, take stamped code on tumbler into dealer, they can grind you a key to fit all your exterior locks by that code ( prvided that they are still all the same).

vin, something with the vin and your name on it, and a photo id. mine, like i said above was 3 each.
anything else is a gigantic waste of time and money.
the only reason you'd ever have to take the lock out to read the numbers on it is if you have different locks than what came with your car (like your ignition).

Re: CRX key question (silentdork818)
yeah the newer keys can cost up to that much. **** the VW and merdeceds keys cost 200 to have recut with the laser. But the older keys cost like 6$ and then another 3$ to have cut for you. All my keys say honda, it's nice. I even had them order me the nsx key but write crx on the side. It's all silver red writing to match the rio red, and it's my master key for my crx. I know it sounds stupid, and it was, but i was 16 and just bought the car. Now i have my good ole plastic black key.

Exactly 6$ for the blank and 3$ for the cut.

also to answer the other question a decent locksmith can cut a key for the doors without anything to go by...they had to do it for us at the pri show in fl when we lost the keys to our truck
