yesterday i drove my crx for 2 blocks and stopped at a light and it died. it does this from time to time due to a low idle but always would start right back up. well this time it started back up then died and wouldnt start. pushed it to a parking lot. tried starting it for a while and then it just fired right up and drove without a problem. parked it for the night and today it wouldnt start for a while and then started finally. drove a couple blocks and it died.

When trying to start it after it died when cranking it and then turning the key completly to off it would make one little puff sound like it would fire one time. if i would leave the key to the on pos. after cranking it it would do nothing except sometimes it would start and then die instantly. The wierdest thing that happened was once i was just sitting and not touching anything. i cant remember but i dont think i even had the clutch in and it just started running for about 2 seconds and i was no where near the key. it was really strange. but finally it started and ran fine. got it to my parking lot and it died, but was able to push it the rest of the way.

So thats my problem. my thought is the ignition switch would be the problem i cant think of anything else that would make the car fire without touching anything. the starter wasnt even cranking that i could tell and the car was sitting still. i dont know what else it could be.

If any one has had a similar problem please let me know or any other thoughts on my problem would be great to hear.

Are you saying that the starter is engaging and starting your car without you touching anything?

it only did it one time and i dont even think the starter got it going. it just fired up for about 2 seconds or less and i wasnt touching anything. it was really wierd and i wasnt tryng to start the car for 20 sec or longer. dont know if that was just a freak occurance or what.

i really dont think they ever had a remote start on this car but cant say for sure. i bought it as a non running vehicle got it running with a new fuse and a new fuel pump and it has been good ever since until now. but this whole car has been gone through. i think at one point the car was parted out and then someone bought another one and pieced it back together. all of the exterior body panels are from a different car except one fender and the vin label on the dash looks like it has a different rivet in it but it matches all the other vins. its been a long process getting this thing n proper order but now i live an hour away from my parents where all my tools and nice garage are so its hard to work on it any more. probably gonna fix this problem and sell it to get something with less problems. no garage makes it difficult to own this car.

Any one want a 91 hf.lol it got 51 mpg my first tank and last i checked it got 44 with lots of in town driving.

it would sounds like it would just barely try to start when i would get done cranking it and immediately turn the key all the way to off. but when i would crank it over and then leave the key in the on position it would not try to fire one bit most of the time. Except a few times it would start while cranking and then it would rev and immediately drop back down and die when leaving the key in the on position. and yes the car barely fired up for a second or two with out me touching the key at all and i wasnt even cranking the car over within probably 20 seconds. the starter didnt get it going though it just fired a couple of times not very strongly. i dont know how this would happen and it was very strange. i cant think of any possible way that the car would spark for no reason to fire up the motor. i think it was a freak occurance.

If any one else has any other suggestions or experience with a similar problem i would love to have more info. The car is sitting an hr away fromme at the moment so i wont be able to try anything out till sunday night or monday.

and i will post when i figure my problem out so it could possbly help others out. I hate it when people dont write what fixed there problem.

i just wanted to thank hondapartshero for the link that he provided me. my problem ended up being the ignitor. luckily i had a couple spare dizzys laying around so it was also a free fix. I didnt really do any testing i just pulled that out first since the symptoms all led to the ignitor being the most likely problem. when i pulled it you could tell it wasnt looking good. it had an orangeish goo around it from getting hot im assuming.
