Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
Aftet driving on the freeway, my idle started doing that idle hunt( when im in neutral or at a stop)
So i figured my fitv or iacv is dirty. Took the fitv apart, unscrewed that white thing, cleaned it, tightened it back up- not sure how tight its suppose to be so i tightened till i heard a click sound. Then cleaned my iacv, and put everything back, and now my idle is WORSE. Its idling around 1500 to 1700. What did i do wrong?

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
I thought it could be that, i took off my radiator cap, coolant is almost to the top, turned my car on and the coolant kept going up n down, as my idle went up n down, turned my heater full blast, didnt seem to help, kept it on until coolant started spilling from the top of radiator.

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
Pretty much, car idle hunted slightly, i take off my throttle body, take off the fitv, cleaned with carb cleaner. Then i took off my iacv, cleaned it too, put it back. Put everything back and my idle got worse..i didnt use a new tb gasket tho, idk if that causes anything.

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
Car still idle hunts. I found small tear on one hose that goes to the iacv, i fixed that, also noticed my pcv hose was pinched, like the intake manifold was sucking really hard thru it, i removed it and capped off the intake part. Still didnt change anything. Ive flushed my coolant out, re filled it, haf the bleeder screw open till coolant came out, then i turned car on with radiator cap off, waited 20 min, still idle hunting. Sprayed carb cleaner on all hoses around im, no idle change.
Could a bad throttle body gasket cause this idle fluctuation thing? Can/should i apply rtv?

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
The tb gasket is like 3 months old, idk if its one of those types of gaskets that once you have it on with the car on, then you cant take off and re use it.
The iacv seal was sort of hard, i put this gasket making material on it, also put some on the gaskets on the fitv.
After my car warms up, and i take my air intake off, and i plug the bottom hole on the throttle body, my car idles really low, like at 100rpm.
If i plug the top hole, it idles at 1000. If i plug both, the car dies.

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
Well it turns out my head gasket blew or was bad. Found out after i got to work, coolant leaking where the head meets the block on dizzy side. So i just put a new head gasket on, and as i fire my car up, it idles high, then after a min it idle hunts still!
And theres a rattling sound might be my valves, its near the number one cylinder.

Well, at least you got some experience out of it. If you touched your fitv or iacv and then put it back on and it got worse. Then maybe you should've went back to the iacv or fitv and figured it out. Obviously it didnt get worse until you touched them. Maybe all it needed was some hondabond on thr old gaskets to seal it to the manifold. Or maybe the fitv and iacv just got old. I had to do the fitv delete on my last engine to fix it since i didnt want to spend $300 on a new fitv

Also go back in your head, make sure everything is tight to Torque Specs per your specific engine, then do a valve adjustment. If it persists then i dunno

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
I did adjust valves, still heard the clanking sound, so i thought maybe i bent a valve and thats causing the idle surge, so i put another head on my car, just finished it now, and still didnt solve anything. Could i just plug the fitv hole on the throttle body?
Also its sort of hard to rotate the crank by hand, my mechanical timing is good tho.
Also i read a post, some guy said
Theres suppose to be a thin layrtlayer of paint around the butterfly part of the tb, he said dont clean it off
When i cleaned my fitv, i did also clean the tb, with carb cleaner and a brush, maybe the blck stuff i cleaned was that paint?? If any one knows about this please let me know, and what paint or substance do i use to fix it?

Re: Cleaning the FITV messed my idle up
Its pretty ghetto rigged lol. I took off the fitv, cut a square aluminum piece from a can of soda, put it over the bottom of the throttle body( where the fitv goes) and punch 3 holea where the size 10 bolts go, and i put this rtv gasket stuff all around( like a glue haha). Works for now, new fitv is way too expensive, not worth the cost to me.
