Got a 89 HF.. just replaced the thermostat (/w OEM) and flushed the rad.. filled with 50/50 antifreeze.

The temp gauge never ends up in the middle.. always slightly lower. Heater doesn't blow hot air.. but rather, warm air. I can park the car and let it idle for 20 min and the rad fan will never turn on. Or at least I've never heard it turn on. Car never overheats.. but like I said the needle never reaches half way.

Is this normal or what should I diagnose for problems?

the needle should never get to halfway or surpass it, it should be always be just below half.

the cable might be muffed up at the control box in the car, or for some reason the hot water valve in the engine bay might not be opening all the way.

Thanks for the pics & link. Valves were not fully open. The heater now blows hot. And about the needle.. it's at the correct temp setting then. Thanks.

my needle always stays a little over 1/4 but never reaches half way...!!!
