Car runs really rich
ALright I have a 91 HF w/ D16Z6 swapped in. It is still running a PM6 ECU and the original injectors. P28 swap and SI injectors are going in when I get a chance.
Problem is that the car runs and smells really rich in the interior when idling. I know its running rich because the AF gauge is stuck on rich.
What could be the cause of this? How do I know what pressure the FPR is set at? Can timing cause a rich state? Could the smell be a bad fuel filter?
Thanks guys.

Re: Car runs really rich (hatchinprogress)
I know, I need to get a new VTEC solenoid and a O2 sensor(which aren't cheap) so I can hook up the conversion harness.
I will look into the timing and the fuel pressure. Hopefully they have those that I can rent at Autozone. Also how do I adjust the fuel pressure, can I do that on the gauge or do I need something else?
No codes at all.

Well I would check my timing, but oh wait, there is no timing cover, great. Even if I had a timing cover, it is gonna be a pain in my butt to remove the one bolt holding my dizzy on. Isn't there supposed to be some kind of mark on the gear, what if it isn't a stock gear, would it still be there?

</TD></TR></TABLE> also a narrow band a/f gauge (im assuming you have a narrowband) is ok to get an idea of what you a/f is but it isnt 100% accurate (im being nice) so dont count on the gauge too much

Re: Car runs really rich (hatchinprogress)
Cool, I'll send you a pm about the solenoid.
I am not sure if its a stock cam gear or not. I know the gear on top is aftermarket, not sure about the other one's. The guy I bought the car from said it had underdrive pulleys, I believe. I'll have to ask him again.
I know the gauge is a general type thing, but when it sits pegged on rich when its idling, I tend to think its running a lil rich. Also the really really strong fuel smell in the interior is a strong indicator of a rich fuel environment.

Re: (pinecone)
i put a d16z in my 88 crx si when you do the conversion be sure to hook the knock sensor up on the back of the engine or you will get no spark and there is no place to hook the idle actuator control valve up on mine there is just no clip or anything but i got mine to run on the new com but not over 3500 rpm

Re: (savagecrxsi)
I have been told there is no knock sensor. The car runs, just smells of gas. The IACV is connected the runs fine also.

Re: (savagecrxsi)
I'll have to look, but wouldn't it be throwing a code or running even crappier if the IACV was not hooked up right. I know it had fallen off during a drive around the block and the car just wanted to die.
