Can an EF be rolled in the shop with no front crossmember?
Basically I am trying to do 15 things at once on this car to fix it and build it properly. I want to remove the factory front crossmember / ac system and rad in my garage. And then push it 20 feet backwards outside to give the engine bay a thorough cleaning and possibly powerwash.
Then push the car back into the garage and install the new crossmember / rad
Can the car be rolled without consequence with no crossmember? Didnt know if that was a no no or not

I don't see a problem with that, it's got no motor in it correct?
Without the weight of the motor and such slow rolling speeds nothing is going to be damaged. I've driven a CRX down the street with the roof removed and no problems.

the wheels will try to move back and forth due to nothing holding them solid.. but no major issues with pushing it around without the crossmember

Re: Can an EF be rolled in the shop with no front crossmember?
seeing that the op got his answer..may I hijack a little so as not to start a whole new thread?
I bought a crossmember that apparently had the front mount cut off to accomodate a B series engine, or bigger radiator...not sure exactly.
anyways, it is powdercoated and has spherical bushings instead of the rubber, and I want to use it.
I was told that you can run without this front mount no problem?
Anybody with an opinion on that?
guy said they run the B series all the time without the front mount....
thx

Re: Can an EF be rolled in the shop with no front crossmember?
Well I got an answer, but my car DOES have an engine in it
Can I still roll it? I dont want to mess it up or have to reinstall the crossmember when something pushed forward/backwards and breaks in my gravel driveway

rolling it is fine. even driving it across a parking lot wouldnt hurt, your caster would just flex alittle

just roll it.. have 2 people help you kick the tires so they dont get stuck too far back or forward.. my buddy drove his crx that had his front radius rods break on his traction bar.. i tied his front lower control arm to the front toe hook and then tied it back to his rear toe hook.. to keep it 'centered' lol.. he was able to drive it to his house down the street

Vagitarian- Can you roll it backwards? If you do roll it without the crossmember and the axles are still in they may bind.
Mattbatson- You don't need the front mount but if you are using stock mounts there may be quite a bit of flex in those old bushings. By replacing to newer mount like hasport or innovative you will notice a difference.
