Re: Brake lights don't turn off (Hond@)
the brake light switch is on a bracket such that when you depress the pedal it releases the switch, this action completes the circuit to turn on the lights.
there is also a plastic plug in the bracket that sometimes falls out and the switch is not depressed when the brake pedal is all the way up.

i have no idea why CRX TOAD is giving you BAD advice. forget what he's telling you.
you need to look for blue plastic bits on the floor under your pedals. i guarantee youll find em like this
its #13.
youll see a hole in the brake pedal now. fill that hole with another bumper from the junkyard or a makeshift bolt that fits in its place. or this

that is not the problem it is the little bumper that they are talking about I have had to replace them on my rex and civic. Look at the brake pedal go upwards you will find the switch. The detent part of the switch is going through a hole in the brake pedal where the little rubber bumper sits. Replace rubber bumper and you are good to go.

sucks when that happens. I duct taped a quarter to my pedal where the plastic stopper fell out on my 240sx years ago and it stayed in place for a couple years. Ghetto but it worked.

replaced mine about 4 months ago. officially mark, year number 16-19 for ef's is years of the mysterious "crayon" looking plastic apearing on everybody's carpet. for those who have the fortune of still having one in tach, replace now before your battery drains unsuspectedly.

Re: Brake lights don't turn off (JohnnieChimpo)
Very good Johnnie..
A 5/16" standard size will work also..
Some folks have "slammed" me for recommending a bolt
saying the impact of the hard object might damage the switch..
If you autocross or drive aggressively,
A softer material might be a better choice,
but the bolt suits me fine as I release the brakes gently and
don't ever "pop" my foot off of the pedal.

This just happened on my 97 EK Hatch ... I quickly diagnosed the problem as this, but I thought this was for only old chassis models (EF, DA, etc), but apperantly the EK Chassis uses the same thing still - why didnt honda change it? I dunno ... Anyways I was right, this was the problem ... I fixed it with a 10mm Bolt and Nut
