brake booster hiss
i think my booster is going out because i hear a hiss everytime i depress the pedal...brakes still feel fine and i just changed front pads, rotors, rear shoes, and drums. i also hear a vacumn leak of some sort in the engine bay. when i shut the car off from insidem, u can hear air coming out and then stopping....is the booster bad or is there a seal that i can just change?
if its the booster how hard is it to remove it. cotter pin that holds the pedal? and 4 bolts to firewall all under dash, and just remove the MC? besides being a bitch to crawl under dash, is there any specific way of putting it back together? or do u just knock the cotter pin out and then the 4 bolts?

Re: brake booster hiss (supracrx)
the best way is to remove your drivers seat and get under there and tackle that sucker. its really not that hard, and yes, you do have to remove the master cylinder to put it on the new brake booster.

Make sure the hose going to the booster isn't leaking, if not than it is definitely your booster, it can be a pain working around the steering column.

could be a check valve. test your booster. couldnt be too hard to listen and pinpoint the source of the noise either i would think....

ok ill go do the checks...but if its the booster, does any other booster from another honda fit? i dont need performance, just something that is same as the stock SI for a 88 SI...with drum brakes in the rears. let m know
i know 89-91 CRX SI comes with disc brakes in the rear would that make a difference in booster?
i called parts store and they asked if the booster was a 7 inch diameter or 8 inch...is the SI ones 8 inch>?

i would recommend just getting the same booster. theres no point in getting anything different.

Re: (eda6)
is number 9 the seal or gasket to the firewall u guys are talking about?
i'm guessing that the #3 is the gasket to the booster and firewall under dash? correct?
if i'm wrong correct me..if its just the gasket i would rather do that...but i just can't find it on the website...or on partsamerica.com

Re: (supracrx)
yeah, i just replaced one this past weekend in my ef, and a few years ago in my prelude. #9 is the little round gasket between the mc and the booster. make sure it's seated properly before you tighten the mc to the booster, if it's cocked up at all air will come out and the pushrod won't have any power behind it. #3 is the gasket between the booster and the firewall. it's nothing at all to worry about, it sits on the 4 studs so there's no real worry about getting it on straight. it's not really necessary to take out your seat to get in there, just move it back all the way and lay on your back on the floor. i got a booster and an mc at crazy ray's for about $30 total. i'm not sure if the crx and dx use the same booster, but the one out of a dx is 205v, so if your original crx one does too then it's ok i guess. hope that helped, good luck. oh yeah, USE FLARE WRENCHES FOR THE LINES! i can't stress that enough.
ps - this is what part of the alphabet would look like if q and r were eliminated

Re: (supracrx)
its a boneyard in md. i guess it wouldn't really apply to you since you're in ca. i guess you can look for a junkyard around there, because i don't think anyone would send their car to the junkyard because the brakes went out. so chances are the booster and mc are probably still good. try looking for one that was in an accident. if it doesn't work, you're only out 20 or 30 bucks at worst. clean it out really good though. if you buy a new or reman mc from an auto store they should give you a gasket with it. bleed bleed bleeeed those brakes when you're done with it.

Re: (goosane)
Why not take the time to upgrade now since you already have to spend the money. Get a 90-93 Integra Booster and MC (NON-ABS!!). MCs are like $30 reman. It's well worth the money for better brake feel and everything.

i think the integra mc requires bending of some lines and such
civic ex MC mounts right up and is 15/16
