Best method of weight reduction - ef hatch
I have a 91 civic standard, so i basically have nothing in it. Ive already stripped the car from the front seats back, and im looking for more methods of weight reduction. Im not looking to keep it fashionable, ive come to grips with it being a beater, so im not going to weep about pulling out sound deadening, or yanking parts or whatever. So, what are good ways to get the weight down lower? Bumper supports, aftermarket replacements to stock parts (wheels, seats, etc...)?

Wiper motor.
Head liner.
Dash.
Under Coating.
Bumper supports are really heavy. You can do without either of them if you aren't worried about safety. If you're only a little worried about safey, then pull the supports off and put some large holes in them with a holesaw bit for the drill. I'd recommend down near the ends outside of the bumper shock things (rear).
Glass is heavy.
A C/F hood, but if its a beater it probably isn't worth it.
You could cut floor pan out in the rear where the tire goes (leave some for strength) and then put tin over it.
It all depends on how far you wanna take it.

-since its a beater and you probably wont get a CF or FG hood you can cut out the skeleton/frame of the oem hood.
-ditch the heater blower. everyone takes out their a/c, but forget about the heater. if you ditch the ac might as well ditch the heater.
-all accesories
-carpet
-and what everyone else said

all carpet, rear seats, whole audio system, ALL panels, a/c, power stearing, bumper supports, passenger seat (if you dont want anyone else in you car), ANY unecessary items that dont contribut to anything. I agree with the dash, it is heavy, carbon fiber hood will help, lighter rims. if your racing, ditch the spare tire and all its compenents, a lightened flywheel will help. thats all i can think for now, if you wanna get a little nuts, you can starve yourself and lose a lot of weight like them horse jockies!

Rip up the carpet and take out the undercoating... It'll be noisy as hell, but that **** is pretty heavy.

Re: Best method of weight reduction - ef hatch (asnx6pac)
Has anyone weighed their ef hatchbacks when they were gutted? Who has the lightest ef hatchback here?
I'd guess it weighs a little over 2000 lbs without me and the box full of crap it in...

Re: Best method of weight reduction - ef hatch (big pete)
Just remember when you add a turbo or super charger or any other performance part that isn't a lightened replacement for your car then your adding weight, especially an engine swap more than likely you'll add the most pounds then!

Get rid of the window glass and rivet in plastic, then cut out the inside of the doors, and remove all of the brackets ets.

Re: Best method of weight reduction - ef hatch (Lsos)
On my '90 STD, I pulled out the rear seats, and spare, and the car weighed 2,050 without me in it ...... :shrugs:
I plan on living with mine on the street, but still plan on going light so, carbon or fiberglass hood, fiberglass/light weight (FIA approved of course) front seats, probably lexan or something in the rear windows and hatch, new carpet with no sound material (there is supposedly not much there). And I still haven't pulled the AC and all its lines out yet!
All this should offset the extra weight the B16 puts in it, and the suspension bracing. My goal is to be around 2,000 lbs. without my fat azz in it for daily use .....

start exercising. Being 240lbs and saying your car is too slow cause it's heavy is kind of the wrong thing to be blaming...
Look at lisa kubo... no matter how much she guts that car, she still could make her car even faster by losing 50lbs or so.
fat people who say they need to make their car lighter is comedy
by the way, i have no idea if the author of the thread is fat...i'm joking...except about the hellbeast lisa kubo.
