Default B16a1 starter replacement choices

My starter recentley went out on my b16, y1 tranny. When I turn the ignition, I get a wheering/whinning noise of the starter motor but it never engages the flywheel. So I'm gonna try to replace it, but I was hoping to get a rebuilt one from the autoparts store.

So can I use a starter from a 1990 integra, or a 1992 integra gsr? or do i have get that exact starter from a b16?

thanks alot!

i believe any of the b series starters will work. not sure if the cable or hydro tranny difference matters.

any of the b series ones should work fine, manual cable or hydro, I have no idea if ones from automatics will work though. the newer 94 up ones are smaller and work better.

thanks for the reply guys, so far I can't seem to get for shure information.
whether I need an actual b16a1 starter, or if any b-series will work.
I've read a few posts and some people say the ones they tried off other b-motors did not match up right, and other people say they do work.
I just dont want to buy one for a 90 ls integra and get it all apart just to see it won't work.

like mentioned before, any b series will work. the usdm ones may not look exactly the same as the jdm ones but they will bolt up and function properly. Also its really not that hard to change it out. Just a couple bolts and some wires.

My starter just went out on my '92 ys1 tranny and I replaced it with a newer 00 Civic Si unit. The flange was a little thinner on the Si starter so I just used a shorter bolt, no biggie. All B-series 5spd starters DO interchange, I' swapped all kinds back and forth over the years.

here is a shot I took of the two to show the difference, the GSR one is on top and the Si is the newer lighter looking one below.
