b16a1 rev problems
Finally I got this problem to happen while I could record it. Sometimes motor works as intended, but other times it will become sluggish around 7k and seems to have a virtual redline at anywhere from 7200rpm-8000rpm.
This use to only happen under load.
In the video you can see even in neutral its doing it now. The quality is pretty bad but i think you can see enough to know whats happening.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: b16a1 rev problems
WOW... just pour led into your engine and solve all your worries. Kid, you are never supposed to rev an engine to it’s redline and hold it there ESPECIALLY while no load is on the engine (which I am sure you do all the time to "show off" to your friends). I would have to bet it is just your tachometer; it could also be that you beat on it so damn much that your engine is in dire need of work.

Id take your bet any day on those assumptions.
Do you honestly think couple seconds of high revving with no load is the equivalent of pouring "led" (lead?) in your motor?
Ive had this motor for almost a year. A couple of weeks ago during my troubleshooting i compression tested my motor and it was 240 across the board. I can test it again tomorrow if you like and post the results. Im sure i didn't do any damage. I agree its not the smartest thing to rev your motor like that, but for a few seconds at a time just to troubleshoot I think Ill be fine.
Do you really think i posted this video to show off? or maybe i revved my motor like that for a few seconds to demonstrate the problem and to get some help?
So if you actually want to help instead of being a d1ck, tell me how you would trouble shoot this problem without revving the motor.
Also, how does a bad tach explain the motor getting very sluggish past at 7k (if the problem happens) .
Not to mention the rpm to mph is always spot on.

Re: b16a1 rev problems
There is a huge difference when its working correctly and when this problem happens. Normally itll be strong throughout the power curve till about 7800rpm or till you switch gears. When the intermittent problem happens, it wont feel nearly as strong starting at anywhere from 6k to 7k and bog down exponentially till I let off the gas, switch gears or sometimes itll hit a weird imaginary redline(like in the video). This imaginary redline also varies and is relative to where the motor starts losing power.

Re: b16a1 rev problems
The cap inside terminals seem to build up manila colored corrosion on the terminals really fast, I mean within days.
Here is a list of things ive done in vain to fix the problem.
replaced spark plugs
double checked gap on plugs
tested the resistance in my plug wires(within spec)
tried a friends new spark plug wires
replace fuel filter.
compression tested motor(240psi x4)
checked ignition timing(good)
replace rotor and cap.
Tested for 12v at dizzy.
tested the resistance of the coil in dizzy(tested within spec).
Replaced the entire dizzy with a new one from distributor king and then returned it after the problem still happened. less restocking fee.
chipped a pr3 ecu and removed knock sensor.
Then I removed rev limiter and this actually seemed to fix the problem but i didnt feel safe driving like that.
