b16a transmission
Im a bit new to these forums and this is my first post.
I have a b16a 1st gen in my 91 crx si. I plan on rebuilding the engine with a turbo. I would assume with high hp I will have to change transmissions or atleast change the gear type? Im im not to familiar with transmission compatibility. I just need to know what would ne a good transmission for this engine at higher hp

it just depends on how you drive. the 16 tranny is good to go if you get lsd. you will use 4 of the gears in a 1/4 mile run at about 115 mph. depending on the hp you are running. an ls tranny with lsd will go third to 120ish. but the 16 is a closer ratio for better accel. it is all how you drive and what is best for you. a gsr tranny is in the middle of them in gear ratio. YOU DO NEED LSD THOUGH. without it you will be only spinning tires.

DO IT ON ALL FOURS
Re: b16a transmission
Honda transmissions can handle well over 600hp bone stock. You will never reach that with a B16 that is even remotely close to stock. You absolutely, positively do NOT need LSD. It's always great to have but isn't in the slightest REQUIRED. The onlything you will need to do is utilize an upgraded clutch. You haven't stated and real goals, so which transmission is best for you is up in the air.

Re: b16a transmission
if anything you can freshen it up with new sync gears and such. maybe the carbon sync gears. but other than that. should be good for pretty much anything. but yea depends on your goals and such for the clutch

Well I plan on getting all upgraded internals with. 84mm bore/sleeve for high boost. And as it is I seem to spin tires midway through second gear and it has an aftermarket clutch (not sure which one ). If it isn't NEEDED, limited slip would help this problem?

Re: b16a transmission
Yes, LSD would help. This could also be cured by a "boost by gear" setup, better tires/suspension setup, throttle control, ect just to name a few. Again, it all depends and what you are trying to accomplish.

Re: b16a transmission
Im not boosted right now, but i have driven various cars with various power, boosted or not i like lsd. Without it there is too much wheel spin. I have too much wheel spin in my rex n/a b16 with an ls tranny. I also have decent Kumho tires, but first does not stick, so LSD is a good option. i like the long gears of the ls trany as well because at the top of second gear i'm at 65 mph. top of third is like 120, but that is just what i like. Yes lsd would help with second gear spin. it is usually only one wheel spinning. Lsd locks the differential under power so neither spin or both do.

Re: b16a transmission
Well i appreciate all the insight! I think what i WANT is to have good acceleration when i want it but maintain decent speed without going into 5th, so GSR transmission might be best for what i want.
Also on another note i currently have upgraded suspension with adjustable camber / caster, Continental Extreme Contact Tires.
