Default B16 Knock sensor

What exactly does the knock sensor do?

I suspect that my knock sensor is not properly hooked up and I was wondering what some of the syptoms of not having a knock sensor working would be.

check engine light... CEL 23.

to best way to tell if your knock sensor is working is to listen for knocking.

hence the name, knock sensor. Its basically like a microphone design to detect viberation or sounds coming from the block.

Did you do the wiring on the car ? If so you need to use a special insulated wire for the knock sensor.

u will never notice ur knock sensor is broke or defective unless you look at the ecu and see a code 23, the cel will come on after about 5-10 minutes of driving. i was like this for two months. ran the same. just as powerful. only diffrence was i had a yellow box glaring at me at nightime.

when i finally got one. i used the regular cheap *** 14 gauge wire. no problems since. no cel. nothing....special insulated wire???? i think your thinking of the o2 sensor becasue it uses volts to send to the computer the a/f ratio.. i dont think the knock sensor has to be that precise...im not positive

Nope I'm thinking about the knock sensor, if the sensor is not wired correctly, the wire will pick up sorts of vibrations and there fore your engine will think its knocking. You need shielded wire.
