Which alternator or alt pulley for d16y8 in a 2nd gen crx?????

Default Which alternator or alt pulley for d16y8 in a 2nd gen crx?????

Ok here goes. 91 crx, has a d16y8 (sohc vtec) in it now. The crx pulley is for a 3 rib belt, the y8 is a 4 rib alt belt. I would put the y8 pulley on the crx alt, but the diameter of the shaft is different.

Anyways, I am gonna try to order a 3 rib belt that is the same length as the y8 belt. Nobody stocks it, so i had to order it from napa and it should arrive monday.

Anyways, just wondering what everyone else does with a y8 or even a z6 in the crx?

EDIT: Does anyone have/know the wiring diagram/schematic for the 91 crx, namely the wires that go to the alt. And the same for a 98 y8. I could always splice the connector into my harness and run the y8 alt. (Crx has round plug for alt, civic has square plug)

I ran into a similar problem... Sorta. I'm not exactly sure on what your situation is.

You said that you have a full Y8 motor in your CRX correct? What alternator do you have attached to the motor? (A6, or Y8) Which crank pulley is attached to the Y8 motor? (A6, or Y8)

My setup: I have a Z6 block and a Y8 head in my CRX. I am using the Z6 crank pulley, it has the wider 4 rib width on the crank pulley. And my A6 alternator has 3 ribs just like you're saying - I just used an A6 alt. belt, so it fit the alternator pulley snugly, but it goes around the Z6 pulley just fine as well - the Z6 pulley just has an extra rib there. There is no slipping. Just get the belt made for the 88-91 CRX Si, it will fit, I promise.

So, I assume you're using your Si wiring harness - I wouldn't splice the Y8's connector to your harness, you can use an A6 alternator with no problems. Just use the appropriate belt for the alternator, don't worry which pulley you're using.
