You know the usual... I cursed, threw things at it, dropped kicked a baby, ate a dead squirrel, and stuck my finger in the crank and just turned. The last one worked the best btw.

I was wondering that myself.
---------------------------
So I tried this tonight.
Before anyone asks I am turning the bolt to the left and not to the right
- Car lowered so that the front right passenger wheel has full weight
- Driver's side wheel immobilized via creative use of the crank pulley tool that I bought (check first post for link to picture).
- Rear wheels as well as passenger front wheel chocked to help immobilize the car.
- Car in 5th gear with clutch out.
- Girlfriend in the car with her foot mashed on the brakes.
- 17 mm impact socket with an extension to outside of the wheel well.
- 18 inch breaker bar
- An old metal fence post, literally 7 feet long and heavy as hell as an additional cheat / breaker bar.
- Positioned the breaker bar at the 12 o'clock position (as looking at the driver's side of the car) and cranked it to roughly the 8-9 o'clock position.
- I thought that maybe I had broken the bolt loose because it was moving but I was mistaken.
- I tried it again this time while looking at the crank pulley and it was in fact moving with the bolt.
Could this be the clutch possibly slipping?
Input / your thoughts are appreciated.
At this point I want to get it off by hand instead of resorting to taking it somewhere to be impacted.

No. That's a good way to [freak] up the crank pulley. There's a reason Honda makes the tools they do.
My advice remains: Either get somone with an air impact gun to zip it off, or get the right tool for the job from your local dealership.

Tippy, thanks for the pic.
However the tool that I did get looked exactly like the fourth one from the top and would just BARELY grab onto the crank bolt because of the double row pulley that I have for the alternator and the AC.
This is not the best angle to show the ineffectiveness of the tool but should give you an idea if how with the double row pulley it just barely touches the end of the bolt.
And this pic made me feel just a little bit better :

I guarantee you the Honda one fits. Your crank pulley is not special because you have a/c and an alternator. Mine is like that and the tool fits.
The honda one has a little offset to it while this alltrade one is flat. Honda doesn't make one tool and have it only fit some cars. Notice how on the bulletin the 90-91 application for that tool just says "Civic."
That's because it fits all 90-91 civics, period.

Re: (Tippyman)
I didn't mean to contradict you. I don't think that Honda would be that stupid.
On a positive note though......
One of the guys who rents space in the garage that comes with our apartment does a lot of work on machinery etc. for his business (hydraulic lifts) and most likely has a compressor and impact gun.
He is a cool guy and I think he would help me out. I'd be able to just push my Rex down to his bay if he has the right tools and hopefully get this sucker off of there.

Re: (UfoTofU)
i actually tried first with an impact gun to no avail. i ended up having a small pry bar on the flywheel teeth wedged against the tranny housing and the floor. it helps if you have an assitant hold that pry bar. then i used a ratchet with a 2 or 3 foot cheater bar. came right off. if you clean and lube it all and torque to proper specs, it comes apart easier next time
btw, sounds like the clutch was slipping when your bolt and pulley turned together

Re: (zrickety)
Well I broke down and make an appointment at a garage just down the street that I didn't even know was there.
After trying a wimpy little impact gun here I decided to just take it to this shop. I foresee 1 of 3 things happening :
1. They get the bolt off.
2. They can't get the bolt off.
3. They break the bolt.
I will let you all know what happens.

Hope it works out for me.
I was hoping that mine was going to come off nice and easy. The Rex is originally from Arizona so I figured that not a lot of the elements (rain etc.) got to the bolt like they would have here in Maine (rain, salt, snow, etc).
How did you get yours off? Special tool? In gear and stomp the brakes?......

I just stuck a socket wrench handle in the holes in the crank, and set it against the wheel well. look at the photo of the finger and you'll see what I mean. Worked fine and I broke it loose no problem with a breaker bar. Ghetto holder, but works.

Re: (Joe...)
Well it is off! Finally.
Took them all of a few taps with a REAL impact to get it off of there. They were nice enough to not even charge me.
So.....if anyone is ever in the Gorham Maine area stop by Carter's Garage

if you ever have this problem again i have the solution. you need an 8 inch 3/8 extension and a 10 mm 12 point socket... a friend, and a good size breaker bar with 17mm for the crank bolt...
what you do is you take the starter off then you rotate the crank til you see one of the 12points on the fly wheel, you then put the socket on it and have your friend hold onto it for dear life... then you rotate the crank slowly until that exenstion gets locked to the edge of the trans... then you break the bolt loose... we did this in a matter of 10 minutes changing the timing belt and water pump on my wifes eg hatch and once on my crx...

Re: (ohfosho)
I broke my crank pulley getting it off. I put 2 bolts threw the pulley and put a pry bar thew the bolts and used that pry bar and the body to keep the pulley from moving. Then I got out a 3ft breaker bar and I ripped one of the bolts out of the pulley. I ended up getting my girlfriends dad's air compressor and my IR Thunder gun out and it came off right away. I found a new pulley at a junk yard for $45.

Re: (UfoTofU)
Well...I'm kind of glad I found this thread.
I am in the middle of this project and have been having a lot of trouble with that pulley bolt.
I'm a little nervous about the whole screwdriver/crowbar in the flywheel.
The shop manual makes it sound like it's no big deal. But no pics to demo how to do this. From the top? Bottom?
Anyone care to post pics. I've never had to do a timing belt before.

No...and I'm kinda glad I didn't. I used this method:
http://www.cadvision.com/blanc....html
and it worked GREAT for keeping the crank pulley from moving without risking damaging anything else on my car. However, I broke two extensions. my Uncle, who is a big guy hurt his shin (putting all of his weight on the bolt)...I used an impact gun, 5' breaker bar, torch, and I yelled at it. Nothing worked.
This crank bolt is
I'm taking it to a friend who is a mechanic. Do you have any idea what kind of water pump I should get (I'm replacing that also while the belt is off)? I'm nervous about going with Autozone, Advanced Auto...I don't want it to break 5 months from now.
