Default 91 civic issues

hi, new to honda forum. wondering if anybody could help me with an issue? i have a 91 civic base with idle issues. the car fires up fine and runs great for about 10 seconds. then the idle drops down and the tach is reading zero(but the car is still running).when i try to accelerate, it bogs down and just spits and sputters. it'll stay running forever, you just cant go anywhere. any ideas?

Do you literally mean the car won't move? Anyway, I'd probably start with a basic tune up if the check engine light isn't lit. Then I'd probably start looking at possible compression issues, clogged cat, etc.

Random thought, if it truly is a "base" as in the STD 4 speed manual model, maybe you're just not use to the power it puts out...

Is the ECU flashing any Check Engine Light codes?

engine has good compression.brand new exhaust with header. replaced head and timing components (belt w.pump.tensioner). it has weird idle, that gets better when you turn on head lights. has no power. hit gas pedal its bogs down. check engine light off unit you unplug sensors

What were the compression numbers? Why was the head replaced?

i dont remember the compression numbers, my buddy did it and said it was good. the head was originally replaced due to no compression on #3. 2 valves were burnt and had chunks missing. the problem occured before the head was replaced and is still giving me the same problem.

Double check mechanical timing and ignition timing. I'd also double check compression if you got the gauge.

By chance did you notice anything about the cylinder itself?

timing is perfect. the cylinder and cylinder walls are in great shape. after replacing the head, i have good compression. i was leaning toward a sensor issue, but i cant afford to take to a shop right now.

Do you have access and know how to use a multimeter?
