Default 90 Civic Battery Problem

Long story short i bought a brand new battery installed it now its gotten to the point where i need a jump to start the car. And the battery wont hold the charge. If i get a jump drive to work, park and try to start it, it wont start need another jump. lights on dash go on and even headlights

Ok so i bought this car for 500. At first I had no problems with it. Then one day i tried to start it and the battery died. No biggie got one of my co workers and he gave me a jump. Got back home parked turned off the and tried to start it again to see if maybe the battery just needed to get charged while driving, AGAIN no start. So i take it to Autozone and they me the battery is bad. So i purchased a BRAND new battery. Put the new battery in car starts right back up. I think one week passed where i had no problems after the new battery was installed. Shortly after i tried to start my car and it sounded like car didnt want to start but it did anyway. Got to work parked. Turned off the car and AGAIN it wouldnt start. I got a jump and it started back up. Got off work turned on the car started again without a problem.

Right now its at the point where i need a jump to start it. But as soon as i turn off the car it doesnt start up. All the lights on the dash go on even the headlights. Just no start without a jump. And when i do give it a jump the battery doesnt hold charge. What can the problem be ? Much help would be appreciated

Doesn't sound like it's initially a battery problem, although you may have damaged the battery with all the drains and jumps.

I would look into having your alternator checked. If you feel like just randomly throwing money and parts at it, then skip the checking and just replace the alternator.

Also take a careful look at all your cables. Make sure the lugs are clean and held down tight. Also inspect the insulation to make sure it is doing it's job. Sometimes it can peel back from the lug, water gets down inside, and the cable where it's difficult to eye without really inspecting.

Ground cables - one from the battery connects to two places, one from the transmission to frame rail, and one from radiator support to the valve cover stud.

Also take a good look at the battery power wire as well as the power wire on the alternator.

Have your battery checked after all this as it might have been inadvertently damaged.

First of I want to say thanks for taking your time to reply..

As of checking the alternator how can I check it without taking it somewhere and paying someone? Customer at work told me a way to check it was to turn on the car and take of the positive that connects to the battery that if the car turns off it the Alternator.

Agree with 4dref, check all your connections my first thought was a ground. And if you crank the car unhook the ground from the battery, if it dies your alternator is shot. But my moneys on wiring or cables because if its dead and you jump it and drive home its not your alternator, unless its charging in and out, which would again likely be your cables/wires.

Thanks for the inputs guys.

How can I go about cheking the wires or the ground?

Yea its pretty annoying. I give the car a jump drive around the block come back park turn it off. Then try and start it again and the car doesn't start without a jump :/
