88 CRX Si oil pressure drop - any ideas???
I was at the NASA/PDA event this last Friday at Pocono S and the day was pretty hot 85 F & Hmind..). My 88 CRX Si was running very well and during the middle of the third track session, the oil pressure started to drop. I drove the car back as there was some pressure registering on the gague. It normally reads in the 50 +/- 5 area but now only just registers on the scale. I checked and there are no leaks and the dip stick look A-OK. The reader 'looks' OK but who knows what can go wrong with those fellas...
Anyway, I let the car cool right down and fired her up only to see the pressure in the 25 area but no higher. The oil is Mobil 1 synthetic with only 2 hours max on it.
There are no apparent metallic pieces on the dip stick in the oil, by the way though I will drain the oil tomorrow and see if there are any apparent metallic shards present.
Anyway, anyone out there got any ideas as to what my problem is? Surely of the oil pump is shot there would be no pressure registering at all.
Many thanks in advance
Gary

25psi is fine at idle(when warm) my pressure goes up to 80-100psi at 8000 rpm, but at idle the pressure is usually low

Swiss Gary, you might want to check and see if you may have pushed the bottom of the oil pan up into the bottom of the oil pickup....this happens sometimes when you drive over the "tiger teeth" (red and white bumps) on the inside corners of the racetrack....I have even contemplated fabricating a standoff bracket inside the oil pan to prevent this from happening.....

Err - Oil line from block goes into 'sender' unit that has a wire out of the top that feeds the oil pressure guage. Doesn't look like much could go wrong but who knows..

Oh yeah; the pressures. AT idle the needle is basically off the guage but at 3000 - 5000 the pressure doesn't go past 25 PSI. It used to before that last session where it simply fell off. I read that I should have around 50 PSI at 5000 RPM so do not want to chance things yet.
