Carefully check the ball bearings on the differential, they are often bad, too.
Please don't trust you life to a floor jack, support the car on something more soid than tires, and block the rear wheels.
Yep that is my F355.

Thanks for the tip on the bearings, I have been spinning them all, and the only one I could find that made any noise, was the input shaft. Also there was very little metal on the magnet, the transmission appears to be in good condition.

As for the floor jack, there are jack stands under the car, its hard to see them in that photo. But they are there. And the rear drivers side tire is blocked. But to be safe I should block both sides.

Glad you are doing it safely, seeing just the floor jack gave me the wrong impression.
Slowly rotate the differential bearings and feel for any slight roughness, as long as they are clean they should feel perfectly smooth.
That's a nice looking CRX you have there, but I think if I owned that Ferrari I would be driving it instead of working on an old CRX!

I can understand why you were concerned. And thank you for making sure I was safe. I did rotate all the bearings and I couldn't find anything but smooth good bearings. Even the input shaft bearing I pulled was in good shape but had some play. I was mainly changing the bearings to prevent future problems rather than solving current problems. I only had slight whine coming from the transmission and the clutch had 70% left. But I changed them all. The main problem was the throwout bearing. It was really bad sounding.

As for the Ferrari, yeah its fun to drive sometimes (mainly on a race track), I have had a large collection of exotic cars, but they all get a bit tiring to drive. Its fun for about the first day or so, but after that they become costly cars that need constant upkeep, and you get constant attention in them. I personally find myself enjoying the incognito feeling I get in the CRX.

On to the CRX! Today we finished the transmission repair, reassembled the tranny, installed the new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. Then we reinstalled the transmission in the car. Everything is all hooked back up, but we are waiting on the axles and motor mounts to come in. I should have them by tomorrow and then we can put the finishing touches on the car and get it out for a test drive. If everything is working correctly I will then start stripping the car down in preparation for paint.

Well today we put the last little pieces back on the car and took it for a test drive. It so nice and quiet now. It drives like a new car. Perfectly smooth, quiet, and effortless gear changes. Amazing how much better it drives.

i admire your work greatly. lol just saying. youre doing an amazing job and i wish that i could spare the time that you are taking to do this. i had a few suggestion that you mighttake into consideration. im not sure if theyre stock in the 88-91 range for the crx or hatchbacks but an addition that IS honda that may spice up some looks could be a set of Fat Fives (fairly heavier than most honda rims), Si Wheels, or Blades to give it a sporty look rim whise, and maybe if you get tired of the huge belly on the steering wheel you have installed now( as i am with my hatch one) ... you could go with the Special Edition 3 spoke honda steering wheel with the red symbol in the center. theyre rather rare to find and cost a pretty penny but sporty still.

keep up the work :]

Thanks for the tips. I have considered a stock set of CRX Si twisty wheels if I could find them. Otherwise I will stick with the wheels I have now. I like all the mods you suggested, they are very tasteful. But my goal is to have an all original 1990 CRX. I know I kinda killed that by adding Integra seats. But I am trying to have that be my only mod. I know it might sound strange, but I just really dig the way these cars were new. Even just being a low end DX.

Today, I finally have a complete interior! I was able to source a cargo cover and divider from a very helpful couple here on the forum. I must say it really makes the interior look sharp.

Finally tonight I am doing the timing belt service on the CRX. I dont know the last time it was done, but the car has a factory timing belt on it, and it looks really good. However with not know when it was changed last, I am just changing it to make sure I dont have problems down the road. The car runs and drives too nice now to have it die from a timing belt. I will have pictures coming later.

Thank you! I am working hard every day to make the car cleaner.

Tonight I did the timing belt, I also took the chance to repaint the valve cover.

How it was on the car.

After aircraft stripper.

Almost finished.

Old timing belt coming out. Being replaced with factory parts of course.

And valve cover before and after. (given I know the engine compartment needs lots of detailing, I will be getting to that after I paint the car).

(The last photo of the valve cover looks a little funny because it was still drying.)

Thanks for the comments! And the wheels were fixed the first day I bought it. Its funny how many people noticed that.

Today I ended up buying one of my dream cars. I found a MINT 1 owner, dealer serviced, 1992 Acura Integra GS-R. The only flaw is the paint on the roof and spoiler. But thats an easy fix. The interior looks brand new. California car, so not a single spot of rust anywhere to be found. Not even surface rust on the underside.

I paid $1,350.

Here's the story. It was a trade in at a local Ford Dealer. They sent to an auto auction. I just happened to be at the auction when they drove it in. I work for a dealer. So I told my boss I wanted the car, and he agreed to let me buy it if I paid him a fee. So I had the auction contact the Ford Dealer and after going back and forth all day, we finally agreed on a price. I was very excited to get a GS-R. It will remain completely stock. And I am going to keep it in my garage as a weekend car.
