Default 1990 Civic STD Problems

Hello,

Was driving to work this morning and on my way, my Civic died on me. I was going around 70 mph, 20 miles into my commute, when my Civic started making nose all of a sudden. It at first sounded like a misfire, then it started rumbling and it sounded like the muffler fell off, it was very loud in the rear. I was able to move over to the shoulder, where I tried to drive on the shoulder to the exit. The car was getting no power and was very loud, so I had could not make it to the exit. The check engine light came on, the battery light came on, while it was rolling. I finally turned it off and then tried to turn it back on. It revs, but does not turn over. There is no CEL when I try to turn it on as well. I looked at the ECU and it is not blinking when I turn the key. I have a full tank of gas, a new battery (2 months old) and the car just passed California smog 2 weeks ago. There is no smoke and the muffler seems to be intact, not loose or broken. I opened up the hood and there was no smoke and it looked normal. One thing that I did notice was that there was a little bit of coolant that seems to have leaked from my intake hose to my engine. It is very small and not very noticeable. Also, the coolant basin was almost empty, which is strange since there are no puddles in my driveway and I just checked everything 2 days ago when installing my upper strut bar. The basis was pretty much full. Just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on where to troubleshoot. Had to get to work right away, so did not really have time to get under the hood, but will try to troubleshoot tonight.

you use some odd wording, it revs but doesnt turn over? how can a car rev without being on, do you mean it cranks but doesnt turn on.

no fluid in the basin? you mean your the fluid reservoir or the actual radiator? neither of which would have anything to do with this issue.

going by your description sounds like you lost a rod, but your description is kind of strange so theres no telling.

and throw in some paragraphs and spacing, thats a serious wall dof text.

check if there is oil in coolant and the other way around. Is it getting spark? Check compression as well. But your description does sound mechanical to me.

Hi All,

Thanks for the advice. I purchased and installed a new distributor and the car fired right up. As for the coolant leak, I noticed that the hose by the air intake tube did not have a clamp. I put one on and there does not seem to be any more coolant leaking.
